If you cure the depression, you'll probably help out the alcoholism problem. However, to cure depression, one must know WHY they are depressed.
Usually a craving is something you want. A withdrawal is the need for something, whether you want it or not. Hence, why it's so hard to quit smoking.
I've never heard of such an addiction, however, too much sleep can be a problem. Most people who sleep too much are usually just plain lazy.

I am sorry about your loss. :( What you're saying is very true. If you know someone is having a problem with an addiction, please intervene.
In my opinion, anything that occupies your time, and keeps you away from your addiction is a treatment.
