So unfortunately my 16 month old son while in the womb his mother consumed heroin everyday for six and a half months of him being in the womb today he seems like he's distracted and won't pay attention is this due to the heroin use of his mother and what other things should i be prepared for thanks in advance

    Hey Liltony,

There is a lot of misinformation about how drug use during pregnancy affect children. I'm in no way advocating drug use while pregnant but what to be fair to everyone, including pregnant moms struggling to get clean and to children of mothers who used while they were in the womb. If you son is one of the ones who will see no effects, I'm sure you wouldn't want to be the one who makes him have one by treating him as such. I commend you for reaching out for answers but while he is still very young, try to rid yourself of any prejudices that he may pick up on when he gets old enough. You son may not have any adverse effects as a result of the mother's opiate use. 16 month's are notoriously inattentive. Their brain is processing so much new info while trying to learn as much as it can. Was the correlation your asking about something a trained profession noticed and brought to you attention or something your assuming is one, out of the norm and two because of exposure to opiates in the womb?

@Liltony hey there. thanks for reaching out. i am not sure about your question... perhaps there is a good book out there on the topic.... seek an addiction specialist for answers...or some sort of healthcare provider who is knowledgeable about this area...

I'm no Dr but i have been involved with social services and asked many of these questions as my parent's adopted a little girl at 8 day's old whom was born a drug baby and now i have an 7 year old sister..she's awesome, anyways from what i was told babies born on heroin will be less active and learn slower if major damage was done.Considering you said he's distracted and won't pay attention i would interpret that as a good thing considering most babies 16 month's old are the same.I can't be sure as i'm not a Dr but i think the baby is just being a normal baby but it wouldn't hurt to have a professional check it out for peace of mind.I know my little sister's birth mom used her entire pregnancy and she is so smart for 7 sometimes I can't believe the word's she uses.Stay Strong and God Bless

@Liltony... Welcome, my friend. I think the best thing for you to do would be to consult a medical professional. I don't think anybody here in this forum is qualified to answer the questions you have about your son. If you're concerned about your son having issues because of his mother's heroin use, talk to a doctor about it.

Kids who are really addicted are those who spend most of their time gaming over doing other things in their life, their gaming behavior escalates or persists despite negative consequences, and they suffer withdrawal effects when they stop.

It's an unfortunate situation, and I'm sorry that you and your son have to go through this. Of course, I don't know much about drug addiction, but I think it is by no means hereditary. There are hundreds of positive stories of when adopted children from disadvantaged families lived a happy and long life. I think you should contact specialists who will help your son. Many different medical factoring companies can help you get in touch with a good specialist, and you only need to want it. I can advise you, the services which I have been using for more than 2 years.

We as adults NEED to embrace our own misery and truly analyze it,begin to educate ourselves so we can slay the "Beast" (Addiction)Is the Beast in this response as the knowledge we begin to gain should in All theory put our mind and heart back in even step TO ensure the Addicted mind doesn't Re-create the fight we all know so personally.
