That can only be positive if she plans to be an actor, a movie producer or if she wants to pitch her own movie ideas. But if she keeps on spending a lot of money just to watch new movies, then that is wrong. She still has time to make a good part out of watching movies.

This is not an addiction or at least not from a medical point of view. It's just a person who doesn't have any other goals and who decides to spend most of his/her time watching TV shows. She/He will regret it after a while, but until this person decides to do something else with the life, you can't do too much about it.

I think it is important to realize the movies and shows are not real and the people in it are actors and it is alright to watch it in the evening to relax and pass the time but doing it all the time may cause a person to not focus on the important things in life, and may miss out on family and friends who may want to spend sometime with them for a few hours. I reckon doing this in the weekend is alright but doing it on a daily basis may not be healthy for the mind as it can be consumed with just watching the shows on the television, and start to think they are real when in fact they are not meant to be viewed that way. I try and limit my use of movies and shows as they can be alright to watch sometimes but not all the time and setting a special time for these sort of things is good and also, you need to be aware of how long the movie or the show will be so you don't get distracted from other things.

I'm rather hooked on several TV shows myself, to the detriment of my productivity. And while I'd never equate it to the struggle that those addicted to drugs or alcohol are facing, I'd say it's still a problem that needs to be addressed. Anything that's not a basic human need that you feel you have to have will eventually cause you some harm in some way, even something as seemingly benign as watching television.

Too many movies can be bad if it gets in the way of what is important to you like work or school, aside from that, if you truly enjoy watching movies and relating to the characters I don't really see the harm in it. Back in the day, people used to see too much reading as a vice (Bookworm). Now, we tend to view readers in a positive light and television watchers in a negative as if books are inherently better. They are both means for conveying a story to the audience, so if you are a lover of the arts, watch on!

I've said it once and i'll repeat it again. Addiction is similar. This is because it involves the mind. Whether you are addicted to porn, Internet or drugs, the effect to the brain is somehow similar.

I just spent like forty hours over the last three weeks watching the Wire from beginning to end, no regrets.

I am watching too much TV as well but never had a similar fear or know of anyone else that does. Maybe your friend is really young and watches shows she isn't supposed to?

It is not bad to watch tv/movie shows if you are just doing it in order to relax and to enjoy during your free time. But if it is already affecting your phychological state of mind and you are making illusions for yourself with that of the characters that you are watching or had watched and you are already assuming that it will happen also in your real life then it is not good already and does not make sense at all

I may be addicted to The Walking Dead. It's the only TV show I'm willing to watch. I tend to stop whatever I'm doing and postpone anything I planned for the day to watch it usually. So it might be a good thing that they take so many breaks between seasons and that I only crave the next episode but can't disregard what I need to do for the day because I want to watch it.

I guess a person can be addicted to almost anything... back when I was younger I never missed a single episode of Dragon Ball Z. I loved that cartoon and yeah, I believe I was addicted to it :p I loved it, now looking back I don't get how I could even like that cartoon, yikes. But no, I honestly don't think that being ''addicted'' to TV is a bad thing, we all need some entertainment in our lives.
