@Coolkidhere, He probably thinks that when he turns 60 or when he retires, then he will just make it up to them, since he would be too old to work anymore, lol. It's clear what he prioritizes in his life, so I hope his family can deal with that.

I think it'd be a mix of both, have you noticed how all those rich people who are on the top never seem to ave enough? They always want to make more and more money. You can see it with all those singers who got so mad over napster and now the pirate bay. They already have a lot money, but the idea less money ends up in their pockets bothers them greatly.

Those are some really good points you've put forward. Yes, there definitely is an element of greed with those that are already highly successful and yet they want more. It seems like they're on an upward spiral and they wish to perpetuate that as long as possible. However, this is unnatural as nature has taught us that there are both upward and downward cycles. All living beings need to experience both during their lifetimes in order to grow.

If I can be addicted to different job opportunities then I will be happy. We must make sure that we are making money. We are not supposed to be spending more because of our addictions but we must be looking for open job opportunities.

I'm not sure if it can be considered an addiction, but it is certainly an unhealthy personality which can lead to destruction of your personal life. It could definitely fall under the category of something to seek therapy for.

Many people are so called workaholics. It is a choice often related to type A personalities.

What a nice way to put it :) It's so true, after all there is a phrase that goes like this: everything that goes up must come down''. I'm seeing that with some formerly successful food chains in my country, I was telling my mom while shopping at one of them how those stores are obviously in decadence now. They used to be the best ones, now I think it's a question of time before they start closing some of their stores.

I hope he realizes that by that time, his kids will have their own family and will probably not spend as much time with him. Also, he has damaged the relationship already by prioritizing his work all the time. He has to make time for his wife and kids now before it is too late already.

@Coolkidhere, Who knows, maybe it is already too late? Sometimes, people just value money more than human relationships. Oh well, the only perk that comes with that attitude is that his kids and wife will inherit a lot when he dies, lol!

Lol! I hope it is not too late though! Life is better when spent with loved ones! I know having a son of my own. I will never exchange the time we spent together even for millions of money.

This has actually been happening in my country for a number of years now. I believe it's also happening in larger economies such as the US and Canada. Fast-food chains and even other retail franchises are reaching their sell-by-date. They've technically come at the end of their life cycle and must give way to something new. While they are an artificial construct, even these businesses cannot escape the laws of nature or the universe.

@Damien Lee I heard inflation hurt a lot fast food chains like McDonalds and KFC, because back when I was little the were able to offer meals for a very small price, now their food is over priced and what is worse for them... people are starting to realize the food they sell is really bad for their health. Not so long I read the buns McDonalds use are made with a chemical that is also used to make yoga mats D:

@Coolkidhere, How old is your son? Yeah, most decent parents value their kids and the time they spend with them more than anything else in this world. No wonder most of them resign after having a baby so that they can take care of them.

He is over a year old.:) Yes many parents resign to take care of their kids especially moms like me. Though it is not really needed as long as parents and children have quality time together. Even just going out every weekend is enough to bond with the kids. That is what my husband does.

@Coolkidhere, I see, my mom got laid off and didn't look for a job anymore when I was born to take care of me. And I also agree with you, since with the poor economy nowadays, every family can make use of both the husband and wife's income.

Your boss is just a workaholic. This situation is certainly an addiction that should be worked on. The truth is that workaholics sometimes do not even know how to stop. They equally need help. This situation is usually caused by poverty, stress, or greed. There are some poor people who intend to change their situations and consequently never allows any opportunity to pass by. They go after every opportunity that shows up no matter how easy or difficult it is. There are people who work hard to hide their stress. Many of them end up as workaholics. They take any opportunity that shows up to keep their minds away from their problems. There are others who are only motivated by greed. I think your boss falls in this category. He is only inspired by greed--the desire to amass wealth that can be spent for hundreds of years. The truth here is that there are people out there who are addicted to opportunity and will never leave any opportunity to pass them without making an effort to take it.

I salute your mom. Being a full time housewife is a tough job, I know as I have experienced it. To be able to set aside your career and focus on your family is such a hard decision. I have not even decided that myself.

Yes with the economy nowadays, two parents working are better. But I guess having one parent at home is also an advantage as he or she can focus on the kids.

@Coolkidhere, Thank you. At that time, I was born in the mid-80's, so for sure the economy was much better. She also did that because our maid was spoiling my older brother, so she didn't like her kids being raised by the maid, so she became a stay-at-home.

I do not think that you can be addicted to opportunity. I mean I guess you can become more motivated at the sight of seeing an opportunity open up for you, but it is not necessarily addiction. I do believe though that sometimes you can go too far in chasing an opportunity. If you ruin your relationship with your friends, family, or others while pursuing an opportunity, I do not think that it is a necessarily good idea. That is the only way I could see it becoming an addiction.

You are really lucky to have your mom stay at home and take care of you and your siblings. Both my parents worked when I was growing up. We also had maids because my mom cannot handle household chores, us and work. While your problem with your former maid is that she spoiled your brother, our problem with our maid is that she hurts us and steals our grocery.

@Coolkidhere, That's quite unfortunate, how many years or months did that maid last working in your house? Was she one of those young college students who were working part-time? Yes my mom was a really a hands-on mom. I think her subconscious mind really made things happen that way so that she could spend more time with us, since she passed away at the young age of 53. :(
