Alcohol free beer: is it any good? Does it taste right? Does it hit the spot? I have doubts it would be much help but would love to hear real life experiences with using it instead of the real deal
Yeah, I recently heard about alcohol free beer and can't quite figure if it's a good or bad idea. I haven't tried it out but I have my doubts of whether it will catch on. I'd imagine that most beer drinkers would like to at least get a bit of a buzz after a night out drinking.
It's been available in the UK for a while and at our last staff Christmas gathering I noticed a colleague drinking some. Personally, I can't stand the taste of beer so don't know why someone would want non-alcoholic but he said he enjoyed the taste but was driving. I'd rather just have a cola!
No it doesn't. Normally non-alcoholic beer has a weird taste, I would prefer drinking something else alcohol free instead of non-alcoholic beer.
Non alcohol beer could catch on if it tasted right. Then again I've never had a taste myself so I don't know what s like. This could be great if you wanted a drink but didn't want to risk getting drunk. If the taste is really off, then you are better off drinking something else like pop or juice.
Isn't Cali a type of soda beer? Meaning it has beer properties but minus the alcohol, so in effect it appears like soda or sparkling water. I've also tasted non-alcoholic wine before. It's no different from purified grape juice but somewhat like wine too. The point of these products is to mimic the taste of alcoholic beverages but without the same drunken feel.
I never tasted it and I think it will taste not as close as the beer. I tasted beer once before and never like it. Better to drink cola or some fruit juices if wanting to avoid alcoholic drinks.
I completley agree @zaerine. I don't like the taste of beer so I can't understand why I would want a non-alcoholic version when there are non-alcoholic better drinks available like cola, lemonade, orange... It's just some people do actually like the taste and appreciate certain aspects of the flavour, much like people who love wine (another drink I can't stand). @xTinx on a side note, I'm a Death Note fan too (Your avatar is from that right?) I remember being about 12 and me and my twin brother managed to sneak a bottle of some crappy red wine up to our room. We'd always been around people drinking from a young age and thought the stuff would be like cherryade or something nice and sweet. Like an idiot, I went first in taking a big gulp and my god, that has to be what put me off wines ever since. When someone tastes a wine and says 'This has a warm fruity summer taste about it', I have no idea where they're tasting that as I get 'Stale urine like with a hint of wax'
I for one do not like the taste of beer and most alcoholic beverages. I drank them because of their alcohol content. So I do not see the purpose of having a non-alcoholic beer. If I would choose a non-alcoholic drink, I would stick to fruit juice or water.
I've tried it a couple of times in the past and while it doesn't taste exactly like beer, it's not as bad as what some of you are making out, but that's just my opinion. I'm not actually sure what the point in it though, as the main reason I drank beer was for the effect, not for the taste.
I understand it is for people who are under a particular treatment, pregnant and miss the taste of real beer that consume it. In my opinion I think you either drink or not, whatever you consume that does not add positive value to your health is a complete waste of time.
@darkrebelchild a bit strong with the statement 'if it does not add positive value to your health is a complete waste of time' but I know what you mean. Value to health can come from being relaxed or having an enjoyable time. My older brother does rally driving (amateur), no benefit to his health directly but the thrill and happiness he gets gives him mental happiness
Well I guess its worth a try if you like the taste of beer. Where I live its rather expensive and only sold in six packs so perhaps look at alternatives. The thing is, most people drink alcohol for the effect and not the taste, so I'd think it would be rather ironic to drink it for the taste and not get the effect. I can see alcoholics using this as a way of slowly coming off the addiction though so I guess if its not putting a dent in your budget, its worth a try.
I don't think non alcoholic beer is worth it. Beer really has a strong taste to it but the buzz is what your looking for. I think ginger beer is okay because it's healthy for you. I think it's just having to deal with the taste without the reward that's a turn off.
I personally love drinking beers, never in excess but I do like the, particularly the taste and all about it, I have never tried an alcohol freee beer but I am almost 100 percent sure that it would definitely taste good as well, I gotta try one these days.
It really depends of the brand, honestly. If you usually buy cheap beer, the alcohol free will taste like cat piss. However, the more expensive brands are generally better. On the other hand, does it really help? Yeah, it can surely help, but only if you don't demand the same taste as the alcohol rich version
I've heard about these, but I don't think I've ever seen them in stores. It must be more popular in other countries. I'm curious to what they taste like.
I feel the same way about it. It's either the best idea ever or the worst thing ever. I can't imagine what beer would taste like without the alcohol taste. I'm not a huge fan of the hoppy beer taste, so I can't imagine I would like it without the alcohol content.
The more I think about, the more puzzling it is. The taste of beer is not that great to begin with. The alcohol content is the only reason to drink beer. A non-alcoholic beer just seems odd.
My thoughts exactly! It must be an acquired taste that you just grow to love. When I was into drinking, I would go for drinks that just didn't taste like they'd be alcoholic (alco-pops and fruity mixes).
