Many addicts fail to overcome their addictions because they don't know what they want.

A man can't serve two masters, so said the sages of yore. You can't successfully battle an addiction if you still think you can derive some pleasure from the drugs. Looking thus [favorably] at the drugs will make it impossible to stop using a substance because you, from time to time, will want to have a taste of the drugs just to remind yourself of how it feels like to be high or something.

If you are serious about fighting an addiction you need to make the tough choice — fight the addiction no matter what it takes. Banish all positive thoughts + memories you might have of the drugs. Look only at their dark side. The pain they've caused you. All they've cost you. Keep your eyes on all the chaos drugs have wreaked in your life and your commitment to be free of them will never waver.

I just liked you for your choice of words. Your post made a good impact on my thinking. Yes, anyone should put things in perspective and weigh the pros and cons of a scenario and do what is best. The pleasure from a drug is temporary and at the most a means to postpone a situation and bathe in momentary cheer. However, the reality still haunts. It's not possible to postpone life. One must realize it quickly to lead a purposeful life.

Thats really good advice! Hopefully, anyone who is having an issue is able to read it.

I agree with what you are saying. To be successful in any area of your life, you have to be able to make definite quality decisions and stick with them. We all have to make choices that will lead us along the paths in our life. Good choices will lead us along good paths. People cannot not make a choice and say they don't know what to choose, when they have in fact chosen. Not making the right choice is in fact making the wrong choice. There is no inbetween. The choice is not verbalized, but it is made clear by action.

Its amazing how many people don't understand that. in all areas of life. I seen liars lie, cheaters cheat, abusers abuse. They always say they aren't going to do it anymore, and get upset when you question their sincerity. Saying you'll stop isn't enough. Because, like you said, actions speak louder than words.

When you decide you have to come clean, and stop taking a substance, it's a big decision to make and you'll only be able to do it, if its what you really want.

A lot of people try to give up because they feel guilty or because friends or family want them to, not because they want to themselves. It's got to be your own decision, and you have to know exactly what the future will have in store and a goal to aim for.

Absolutely! Until you really want to quit you are going to be fighting temptation, every minute of every day. Its a lot easier when its something you don't want to do, anyway.
