Are outpatient drug treatment groups really helpful?

I realize it depends on the mindset, and whether someone really wants to quit using or not, but those of you who have been through these groups do you find they are really a deterrent to using or were you simply going through the motions to please someone else? I know my son in his "pothead days" went to outpatient treatment..it simply had no effect though. Of course he had no desire to quit using at that point.

Well, it won't help if a person doesn't want to quit. You can't force someone to do somethimg, they'll only get help when they're ready. You can help people become ready though.
