I was wondering whether most people have been able to do this. The other day, one of my colleagues bragged about getting drunk and high on heroin and then driving home under the influence. He says he's got it under control but I think there's no coming back for him.
There are plenty of people who have done heroin just the once. When you've only done it once, it's not a case of quitting, it's a case of not doing it again. Although it is highly addictive, it generally requires more than one use to create and addiction, despite what the media says.
The effects of heroin differ on a person to person basis. Some people find it addicting on the first try while others immediately find it revolting. Hardcore addicts who switch to using this drug after years of indulging in a different one tend to get hooked. People who ingest the drug out curiosity and are not substance abusers usually cannot withstand it. Compared to marijuana, heroin is more potent.
First that person really needs to want it for their own self. Once that is accomplished all recovery is possible. When you try and change for a certain person it will never pan out for long. The inner desire to come back from such a dark place needs to come from within. There is never a "lost" cause only people who are "lost to the cause." I had a 6 year love affair with Meth as my primary drug with everything else just being an added bonus. So Yes I believe everyone can come back. Sad most have to hit rock bottom first.
Agreed. Putting blanket statements on substances really is not very efficient nor productive towards finding a solution. The effects are usually different for most individuals as people like different things and substances have different effects on different individuals.
Bragging about driving under the influence? Sounds like this person has a lot of growing up to do, hopefully sooner than later. If a person brags about something, that usually means that they found some pleasure in the experience. Hopefully your colleague doesn't make this type of irresponsible behavior a habit.
I am not a heroin user, but from my perspective, I would think that if someone has only used it once, it would be much easier to quit as long as they do not go back to it.
You can absolutely quit heroin after a single use. Perhaps you can even quit after a few uses. However, it becomes harder and harder to stop using the further along you get with the drug. Then there are some people who become hooked right away, and stopping even after a single time is difficult for them. That's why it's better not to risk things and to simply avoid heroin.
I'd think so, unless you have a very addictive personality or perhaps a lack of self preservation. Sometimes people tend to get addicted in the first place just out of a sense of self-worthlessness. There are always other factors and it might just hook people on the first try for no reason... Agree with missbishi, though. It's not really quitting if it's only once.
I've never had an experience with heroin. From what I have heard, and read about this drug. Is it's highly addictive so I guess it would depend on the person using for the first time.
Addiction is when you can't do without what you are hooked to. I think for him he is safe not unless he start getting high on it regularly. There is no need to try it out anyway, I don't think it's worth the risk. #MyThoughts
Yes, you can quit after trying it once but judging by what you've said, it doesn't sound like it's going to be a one-time thing. If someone was willing to try it and enjoyed it, then they'd probably be willing to go back to it. There is, however, a big difference between smoking it and injecting it. Smoking it is a lot less dangerous but is still addictive.
I think it depends on the person. I think I could probably quit once, since I gain happiness from so many other aspects of my life, but it may be possible that I might have strong cravings for it afterwards. For example, I used to smoke Marijuana, but I still have cravings once in awhile, which is quite irritating, because sometimes it feels like you just want to give into the craving and smoke again. Similarly, that may happen when someone who tries Heroin just once then decides to stop. If they give into it again, then they are basically a rock rolling down a very steep mountain at that point.
It is much better not to try it because even one single dose of any form of drug, including heroin, can get you well on your way to addiction. There are people who experiment with the wrong thinking. They feel that trying it once or twice is safe and you can easily get off it and stop. But the truth is that their curiosity usually gets the best of them. If it was so easy to stop, it wouldn’t be addictive. At the first try, it probably won’t feel so good. But you will try it again, and then again, and again until finally, you can’t stop.
Anyone can quit anything if they just set their mind and help discipline their body. It is not inescapable and there is always a way out. If you can't get it cold turkey, then seek help.
I once tried heroin and never even thought about it again. I didn't go out looking for it. It just sort of fell into my lap. I tried it and that was it. Not knowing anyone who would have it and having no connections to the heroin community meant that I wouldn't have been able to get more, anyway. I do think that any drug can be tried once or twice without becoming an addict. That being said, the best way to avoid becoming addicted to something is to never even try it.
The simple answer is 'yes'. I wish my country had a more realistic take on educating people about the drugs it condemns. I feel like a lot of people think heroin is this magical drug where regardless of how you introduce it into your system it makes you feel amazing until you are instantaneously addicted & prostituting for your next fix. I know plenty of people who played with heroin & didn't get burned. Doesn't mean you ever should tempt fate & play with it but it's not the scary boogeyman Scruff McGruff would have you believe.
Yes, of course. I had a very good friend in high school who wanted to try heroin out of curiousity. He asked me before and I kind of allowed it, one time exception back then. He kept his promise after. Now he's settled at his home and he's all good, just a regular drinker, doesn't abuse it. Glad he didn't got addicted back then.
