I have heard that it only takes one use for someone to get hooked in this stuff. Is this true? Do people really g wet sick when they don't have it?
It takes more than one use to get addicted but it still creeps up quickly on the user. It is such a powerful drug which causes physical withdrawal symptoms after the body has got used to it. These include sweats, shakes, vomiting and flu-like symptoms.
I have never understood why people try this drug to begin with. I have seen people who have used it and they go downhill very rapidly and can't seem to get off it without intense treatment. I just wish there was more that people could do to keep this drug off the streets.
I've never tried it but from what I've seen in news and media it looks like it does feel very nice and it's probably why people try it out in the first place. Everyone needs an escape from time to time, but some people need it a lot more than others, often due to unfortunate circumstances. For people who have had a fairly good life, maybe going to the movies with friends would be enough of an escape, but for someone with childhood traumas such as abuse or rape, I doubt just watching a movie would be enough to take one's mind off of the past.
From what I have read, it is made from the poppy plant and has some if the same properties of morphine. It gives the body an instant pain relief sensation and it is what people are after. I agree with you that some people probably have very hard things in their life to escape from and this drug may do the trick for them. I actually read the articles on this forum about the drug and it just seems like a gateway to hell.
It does seem like a gateway to hell, Rosyrain, and even though I've tried most drugs out there, I was never tempted by heroin. Then again, I've never had such a traumatic life experience that has made me want to blot everything out. I do feel that getting clean from heroin requires more than just stopping using. It also needs the user to confront and deal with the problems that have led to them using in the first place.
I think one reason some people try it is because they don't care anymore. They are apathetic or spiteful about their life, what happens them, and feel as if they have no one and will not make it anywhere. Being a getaway was previously mentioned, and it's another reason. When blended with the first it makes for a deadly combination.
Instant pain relief is an understatement. Heroin gives incredibly intense euphoria, especially when you start nodding off. That, aside avoiding withdrawal, is what keeps people coming back.
I don't think that when you try it once you get hooked right then and there. It like many drugs is a progressive drug, once you try it you will obviously love the way it makes you feel and as we all know when something is good you always want to try it again. This is where you now start using it regularly and that's when like most of the posters said it creeps up on you! The withdrawal symptoms from it are hectic and I must say it takes more from someone to recover from a heroin addiction than from most drugs.
I have heard through many sources that Heroin is running rapid around our small villages and communities. It scares me to think that once a person uses Heroin that they become addicted. I pray for everyone to be safe.
That's not how addiction works. It is physically impossible for your body to become dependent on the regular stimulation of the μ-opioid receptors after only one use.
I have also heard that the withdrawal symptoms are among the worst you can ever experience. What are the symptoms like?
I am pretty clueless myself when it comes to this drug. The closest I have come to it is what I see and hear on the television. Timelord 731 seems to know a little about it. Quoting the poster's words "It isn't an instant addiction but it will be like nothing else you have ever tried" suggest it's something you really need to stay far away from. Here are some facts outside of what can be found in the forum Rosyrain. http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/heroin
I read the external link and heroine actually deteriorates the brain. That is the computer of your life and should not be messed with. I can see how some people get hooked on the stuff if they have had serious issues occur in their lives in the past.
I have family members who have been using this stuff for years. I have also tried it myself but only once and by smoking it - I didn't find it enjoyable at all, it just made me feel dirty and horrible and I never touched it again. I really didn't like the way it made me feel. It's possible to get addicted by smoking it but when people start injecting, that's when the real addiction kicks in. The withdrawal symptoms, for long-term users, can be just as fatal as overdosing on the stuff. My brother-in-law injects it and has been addicted to it for many years. He will do whatever it takes to get his fix, even if it means stealing from his own family or robbing old age pensioners, the addiction is that bad.
It’s one of the most expensive drugs in the drug; I have never understood why people pay so much for something that destroys their bodies. I have never used it though I here its effect are so high and effective among its users, maybe that can account for its high price. Not only does the user remain high, there have been cases of people injecting their sexual organs with the drug to get sexually aroused. Some even claimed to feel better when using the drug than when with their partners. I guess they derived their inspiration from a research conducted on sexual dysfunction among heroin dependent men. I've heard that too, that is why these are called hard drugs, they hook you immediately, so better not try them or we might regret it for life.
