Yep, that is the issue everything slips and people lose it to the point that they start to steal to maintain the habit, even stealing from the family. It's a sad sad picture.
I think that is what a lot of people don't realize about drugs. It's not like a one time use and then they're complete addicts who will do anything to get their fix. It just creeps up extremely quick on the user.
I tried it once. The high made me want to try it again... but luckily I never did. But I can tell you why people try it and get addicted, and the reason is the same as most drugs... the high. What isn't there to understand, guys? People try a drug, enjoy the high, and take it more without really thinking about the long term consequences of their actions. Addiction creeps up on them but they don't think it'll happen to them, or maybe they just don't care. I've tried Heroin and I enjoyed the experience, but I would never take it again. It's way too risky.
I think it was risky enough for you to have tried it because that is one thing that you won't forget and someday you might feel more fragile and you go for it again. I hope you don't!!
Well, I don't think I'm subconsciously addicted or anything.. if anything my experience has made me less likely to try it again.
I am glad to hear that, but I can tell you by experience that we have some things deep inside our head that can pop out when we least expect, so beware.
You are definitely one of the luckier ones. Heroin is one of the most addictive drugs out there. What was the high like? Was it pleasant?
That's how I see it too. As for the high to be honest I don't think it brings any sort of benefits to discuss it and to relive those moments, better leave them in the past.
Well, I don't understand why people become addicted, really. I remember that when I used to take drugs, and I would take for a long period of time upon beginning, I could've quit the very next day without too much hassle. The same thing goes for people smoking cigarettes; I smoked for about 4 years, but when my doctor recommended me to not smoke anymore because I showed signs of a lung disease ( not cancer ), I quit without any withdrawal symptoms. Probably if people knew how to hierarchize their priorities, they would come off better, and better manage their addiction problems.
You are lucky not to understand that rightct! People become addicted because they don't have the strength to change their ways and because it's a comfortable situation just to keep consuming.
I never tried heroin because I was scared of needles. By the time I found out it could be snorted or smoked, I was happy enough with booze, weed and coke to give it a try, so I never thought about adding another vice to my collection. But I've always been curious as to its effects. There are still lots of drugs out there I've never tried, and definitely will never try now that I've quit most of that stuff. The other drug I was always to scared to try, but really curious about was LSD. I really wanted to find out why people liked The Beatle's Sgt. Peppers album so much and I hated it, and still do. I thought that by doing LSD I would finally find out what the fuss was all about, but I was too scared of bad trips.
Whatever the reason it was, you are better off. I do wonder what leads someone to try such a drug, knowing that it can totally devastate our life. It's hard to believe that so much ignorance still exists these days.
I personally don't think it has anything to do with strength... I am a heroin addict and for me using is the only life I know how to live now. I have been using for years and I don't know how to live, deal with my emotions, or cope without it. I have been to rehabs, detox centers, psychiatrists. I am currently still struggling with it.
It is shocking how fast it can effect a person and the addiction can happen straight away. After two or three uses depending on the dosage. This is the drug used in trafficking too and the girls are injected and after the second or third hit they are addicted. To get off is the hardest part as it is on of the drugs that are not the easiest to get away from.
I think it is different for all people. No-one will react the same. One person may try a drug once and never be able to stop, while another can try it a few times and walk away without giving it a thought. I know someone who tried it for the first time and dropped dead. I think we really need to consider why we are doing this and rather face up to our issues than destroy our lives.
In my experience you cannot be physically addicted after one use, but the want is there after the first use. I have had a friend who had experienced serious withdrawals, and they have had cold sweats, hot sweats, etc.
Addictive? Well if enough people say tomatoes are addictive it becomes implanted in the mind. Water is addictive, it makes you happy if you drink enough of it. Word of mouth advertising. If you use something long enough it will be a habit; withdrawal symptoms & side effects when coming off of course. Will power comes when your system is clean & your mind is focused. Altered states of mind and body is what people seek. There are plenty of other ways.
