I think it's addictive mostly because of the substances it has in it. Junk food is generally more addictive than regular/healthy food. I was kind of addicted to honey though. And I believe I would still be, if I had any. Truth is that anything can become addictive if consumed daily/in excess.
My dad's love for Sun Drop is the sole reason he believes he has an addictive personality. he always has a habit that he devotes everything to. But building model airplanes isn't exactly an addiction. And he doesn't drink coffee, alcohol, do any drugs, or smoke cigarettes. Its just because of the Sun Drop.
My mom went through this one. She had to have a coke and coffee everyday. I guess it is the caffeine that she was addicted to. Today she doesn't drink sodas any more or coffee because she had a problem with her kidneys. It goes to show that too much of anything is not good.
Soda may be my worst addiction. I'd probably have a 6 pack (of abs) if I stayed away from the stuff. I've been ridiculed by family for it almost my whole life, and I can start to see the affects on my teeth now because I can not afford to go to the dentist. Coca-Cola is a really delicious beverage, I will admit. What I have noticed, is that if you do not drink it for awhile and then have one you will really understand why it is considered a treat, and used to be drunken only on special occasions.
Just like coffee, I believe coke can be addicting because of the caffeine. If you drink it regularly for a few days, you will begin to crave it. When I was in college I started drinking coke with lunch everyday because I had the freedom to do so. I did not drink coke except once in a blue moon before that. After a while, I realized that if there was a day a skipped coke at lunch time, I had a pretty rough time getting through the afternoon.
My mom's aunt got very addicted to coke, we suspect that is what ended up ruining her kidneys. She died from kidney failure after years of dealing with kidney problems. She ended up needing dialysis the last years of her life. But she started drinking coca cola on a daily basis when she was just 15 years old. I guess she was indeed addicted to the sugar in it, she only drank cola, no water...
Whats great about any carbonated beverage, is it doesn't take long to break the habit. I had to stop being around Mt. dew for a day or two, and then I was all good with drinking my sweet tea. I can't drink carbonation more than once a week or so. And I NEVER crave it.
I'm not really fond of Coke, but I can relate to craving soda as well, the only difference is that it is with rootbeer. I can drink a whole 1.5 to 2 liters in a day or so. But I know drinking too much soda is unhealthy and can lead to weight gain, so I try my best to avoid it.
Whether or not sugar is addictive is really up for debate. It's widely known though that using enough caffeine for a long enough time can lead to withdrawal symptoms when the user cuts down too quick.
Well I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm drinking Pepsi and not Cola. Right now I'm one day strong so hopefully I can keep off of this beverage, but it's pretty hard since I used to drink it everyday. It's really unhealthy.
Yes, that is actually a real issue. Drinking a lot of coke makes you more addicted, the more you drink it, the more you're actually addicted. It contains a certain substance that keeps you coming.
I think one can get addicted to Coca cola. I have a friend who will not function until he takes it. I wonder about that I have not heard anyone get addicted to other soft drinks.
By far one of the worst addictions! Mainly because of its great taste but also because of its availability. You can buy this garbage nearly everywhere! Despite all my efforts I have to admit I am on a 2L a day diet. My girlfriend has tried stopping me, cold turkey, which obviously didn't work and secondly by having me reduce my consumption to about half a bottle a day. The problem is that I would wake up in the morning with a strange taste in my mouth and a huge craving. Were talking a toast and Pepsi/Coke craving!!! For now, I have accepted the fact that I am addicted to Pepsi and I try to keep an above average active lifestyle to compensate. I feel as though I am out of options... -LoyalServant
Not quite a full on addict, and I don't crave Coke - or any kind of pop, since I like other flavours more - but I do find that I need to have three or four cans of soda whenever I unwisely choose to have one. The sugar rush pushes me to seek out more, more, more, which is bad since I usually feel pretty terrible after drinking pop. Ideally I grab some when at a fast food place, leave, and then forget about the craving while going about the rest of my day. Sugar is deadly for me. Not literally, but I love it way too much.
Never got addicted to coke since to me it is one of the most expensive soft drinks around, but if you mean soft drinks in general, then not really. I usually only drink one to two bottles of soda a day. A lot better than before!
I tend to drink a lot of coke during summer but I've noticed that as soon as it starts to get colder, my coke craving naturally subsides. When it's full blown winter, I very rarely even consider drinking coke, I usually go for hot drinks or juice instead. I think it's mostly the heat that makes a nice cold coke cola seem so irresistible
I don't know maybe. It never seemed to be but perhaps it is different now. Coca Cola could have just put something in it to make it more a addictive. It had cocaine in it. This was the original main thing about it that's why they called it coca cola. The company claims to have removed the ingredient but I have read that some time in the mid 80's or 90's they bought a tremendous amount of cocaine from a foreign country. I want to say Belgium. You seriously don't want to drink that garbage.
From my knowledge that wasn't actually cocaine which was being put in the Coca Cola original recipe, but it was an extract which was out of the same plant from which cocaine gets manufactured, however I'm not disagreeing on the fact that the extract from that plant might've been also highly addictive. However, they've changed the recipe for Coca Cola more than often, so we can't related to a fixed period of time when we talk about it's effects, as Cola addiction seemed to be the only thing which always remained constant.
I didn't believe such thing until about few weeks ago when I started my day normally. I got really frustrated and I simply hated everything and everybody. I was not in the mood to do any tasks. After I had my breakfast and a cup of coke, everything changed. I felt how I was getting pumped by the caffeine and that's when I realized I could be addicted to it. Now, I am not afraid to admit that I am probably addicted to caffeine and sugar, and long-term I believe that these two substances would harm me more than anything else. I am planning on giving up all sodas and cut my daily sugar dose and would advise everyone to take care because what it is available on the market doesn't mean is the healthiest.
I agree with you at the coca cola and cigarrete thing, especially if it's canned. I am not addicted to coca cola but I've heard a lot of stories about people who are... My grandmother has been constantly drinking coca cola since I have any memories about her, and I'm 20. My mother has been talking to her about how bad it is but she doesn't understand, sometimes I've seen her with hidden bottles of coca cola in her room. So I guess it's a thing for a lot of people.
