I don't even know how many cups I drink in a day. I have about six pots of coffee everyday, so however many cups that would equate to.
I don't necessarily think that four cups a day is excessive or an addiction. It might not be normal since most people drink about one to two cups a day. But if you can still function without it, then you're fine. However, if you have to have that coffee, and you cannot do daily tasks without it, you might want to think about lowering your consumption. It also depends on what type of coffee you take. Is it pure coffee or is it loaded with sugar? Because again, you might be consuming more sugar than necessary and that can lead to other health problems. How big is the cup as well? Is it just a small cup or a mug? Because of course, four mugs a day might be way too much.
Research suggests there are both negative sides and positive sides of coffee. So talking about coffee is a little bit difficult, especially ruling out it'd harms. But from my experience too much coffee brings me nervousness and insomnia.
I asked this because I could see it being easier to drink a lot of coffee if you are at home, otherwise it can get a little expensive if you are buying a lot of coffee when you are out.
I think it depends on the person Some people show no negative side effects at all, one of them is my fiance who drinks 6 cups a day and still manages to sleep at night so well. I'd not be able to sleep if I dared to drink 2 cups of coffee a couple hours before going to bed, just like he does, though. Even a cup of coffee before bed would cause me insomnia
In my experience, as a coffee shop worker, you get into placebo mood after a while of consuming large quantities of coffee. The body becomes resistant to caffeine, but the simple fact that you drink a coffee gives you enough energy to make it throughout the day. Every time you feel coffee doesn't do too much, switch with green/black/white tea, preferably with green and white.
Coffee is starting to have a good rep lately. I read a lot of publications extolling the benefits of coffee drinking. I love coffee and I don't believe it will cause sleeplessness because I drink a cup of coffee before I sleep at night and I sleep soundly, yes believe me. the only draw back I have in drinking coffee are the stains they leave on your teeth so you must always drink water and brush your teeth.
Unless your coffee is giving your real problems, I wouldn't worry about it. 4 cups a day is really nothing. As I mentioned in the above post, coffee is actually quite good for you. Maybe you should put a lot of milk in it so you are getting less caffeine. I am not sure what your problem with drinking coffee is.
Why do you think you're hurting yourself? Four cups doesn't sound like it's necessarily an addiction if it's not impacting your life. Sometimes I drink two or three cups and I don't feel like an addict as I'm not a regular coffee drinker. On the other hand, if you want to quit, but can't, then that's definitely a problem. A lot of people don't recommend replacing one addiction with another, but you might try switching to tea, which can have much less caffeine than coffee does. I personally like to relax with a mug of green tea in the afternoon.
WOW! I buy A LOT of coffee out and I am sure I would drink a lot more if I was at home during the day.
You are taking four cups a day and and you are thinking it as an addiction. I am taking 8 cups a day and I don't think it is an addiction. If you think you have coffee addiction, try taking mild coffee drink instead of strong coffee.
The presence of Caffeine in Coffee does cause an addiction. It is Okay to be addicted to coffee if it is not too much. It is definitely right to back off if it causing problems such as Gastritis, Discomfort etc. Other than that getting addicted to coffee is fine unless you visit a place where coffee is unavailable. The best advice I can give to give up coffee is to drink bad coffee for some time until you completely hate coffee. This might ruin your day but it will keep you very healthy.
Coffee addiction is real, but doesn't do much harm to you unless you're having heart issues already or if you are prone to insomnia. Once your tolerance develops you'll be able to sleep even after you drink coffee and rest well. The main downside to coffee addiction though, is that it is so damn difficult to wake up in the morning without drinking a cup of coffee, or an energy drink, or anything containing caffeine. Headaches are hard to deal with when you lack caffeine.
I haven't had 8 cups of coffee in my entire 54 years on this planet. Seriously. Just never liked the stuff.
