I read this article online today: http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/re...of-diet-pill-dnp/story-fnq2o7dd-1227314274356 Do you know anyone that has ever abused diet pills? The way they described her passing was quite intense. I can't say I ever thought about them being lethal.
This is so tragic. The obsession to become thin is becoming more dangerous. She took 6 tablets more than the normal prescribed dose, because she thought it would work faster and now she is dead. I wonder who is to be blamed, the girl, the drug manufacturers or the society that exalts thin girls above the big ones
Oh jeez, this is so sad. Those diet pills are super dangerous. Does anybody remember the Fen-Phen lawsuits? Basically the combination was causing people's heart valves to blow. This is a personal issue for me because I took those diet pills many times in the past. In my hometown, everyone is morbidly overweight and there are clinics that give those pills out like expensive candy. I took my first ones when I was around 16. My mom, who is/was overweight, decided that she didn't like the feeling they gave her and so she gave them to me. I was only slightly overweight, but mostly healthy. (Although in my head I was an elephant, lol teenagers.) Since then, I've gone to those clinics at least 5-6 times and gotten a large prescription. Again, let me stress that even at my largest, I've only been just slightly overweight. Now that I am in recovery, I am so angry that I was able to get those dangerous pills so easily. Its all about the bottom-line to these people.
Society is tough on young women. I know when I was that age I was SO focused on being thin -- I'd eat the bare minimum, work out a ton and so forth...because I thought that my self worth was completely defined by how I looked! Especially these days with things like photoshop and so forth, young people just don't get to see REAL bodies any more...it's for the most part all airbrushed, thinned out, cellulite smoothed over...no wonder they find it so hard.
I think this should be stopped. Girls shouldn't feel that they are ugly because they are not thin. It is totally absurd. As a guy, I love a woman that has some meat on her bones, not all bones. In my country, most men I know prefer big women. I don't know why the entertainment industries celebrate those thins girls so much. They look sickly and dry to me.
So nice to get a man's perspective on this! I think a lot of women would be happy to read your post and know that being super thin isn't the only body type that is celebrated out there. Thanks for sharing!
My cousin was obsessed with his weight was a bit overweight did take some diet pills for few months but they did not do a lot so he did gain back some weight when he stopped taking the pills and may not work as well. I hope, that women don't view the movie stars or entertainment world as being somewhere where you should look to look good and change appearance as well and also a person needs to change as well for themself though. I hope that, women change for themself and not to do it for others or to try and look like a actress or movie star as well who have to change or keep the appearance as well.
My ex's mother was addicted to diet pills. I have never heard of someone dying from taking to many however I'm not surprised it has happened. Society puts so much pressure on people to look good and thin these days, its really sad.
Mini-thins were a big thing here for awhile. Haven't heard anything about them for a few years now. I, myself, never took them but, they're supposed to give an energy boost close to being high. Its quite a bummer about this girl though. Just a little younger than me and gone too soon.
The thing with diet pills is that they prevent you from eating - they totally kill your appetite. After a period of consumption, some people develop an immunity to them so they start taking more to control their food cravings. They rely on the pills to stop their hunger pangs instead of making a conscious effort to control the amount of food they ingest in their system. Result: they stop eating altogether and ruin their health.
This is so horrible! She obviously didnt need them. What kind of pill do you think it was? I can't think of any pill that has a lethal dose of 2 pills. Maybe something like phin phin? I don't know anything about that diet pill except its illegal now.
Everything you abuse becomes lethal or at least harmful at one point. Especially diet pills or anything that changes something about how your body works. Diet pills are not that popular in my country, so I haven't met anyone using/abusing them yet.
We as humans had different body metabolism that affects our weight. Whatever we eat or drink are converted into energy by our own metabolism. It only shows that if one person has slow metabolism chances are there will be an excess in weight. And on the other hand if one has fast metabolism there will be a decrease in weight. That is why most people are blaming their being overweight due to their slow metabolism. Despite that nowadays most women even young or old are very much conscious about how to they looks like especially when it comes to their body weight. All they want is to be slim sometimes to the point of being thin already. And some who are over weight use diet pills that promise good amazing results to their weight problems. But what if this kind of pill is not right for your body and will cause some side effects? You never know how safe are the ingredients of the product itself and you just rely on what you saw and heard from other people testimonies or marketing propaganda in order to sell their products. Just remember that men had different views with regards to the body weights of women. If a man has pure intentions and really like you as a woman no matter what your body size be you are over weight or under weight it will not matter to them. Just be thankful for the kind of body that you had and love it the way God had given it to you.
@ReadmeByAmy I think that was very well said. And you make a really great point, too. I'm dieting and jogging to lose weight right now, but not because I want anyone else's approval. I just want to feel good again. People should be careful to do these sort of things for the right reasons. And even then, to do them the right (healthy) way.
Though I am not stick thin, I have never thought of taking these diet pills. There are a lot of times that I just feel super ugly and fat. Mostly because I am surrounded by thinner and flawless people. Sometimes, it just gets to you. But you know what? I used that as a motivation. I did my best to workout and eat healthy. Cutting junk foods and eating fruits have a big impact on my weight. I repeat, I am not stick thin and probably will never be. That is the aftermath of having given birth. But I am okay with it. As long as I am healthy and my baby is healthy, I am happy. I do hope women today try to be more nice to themselves. It is not the end of the world if you are not stick thin or even flawless as a celebrity. It is hard to accept our flaws but that is just who we are. Perfectly imperfect!
Before I gained this weight I didn't mind the baby "love handles". When you have had a baby I think you earned them. not to mention I think they look so much better than walking tooth picks.
Basically I know a whole community of females that do this. They are not even over weight. The sad part is they think a pill is going to be the magic cure to weight loss. In fact changing habits the bad ones are the true to weight loss. Get off your butts and exercise eat less. The pill is just an aide not a fix.
Well thank you very much! I think mothers did earn them and also the stretchmarks. They are kind of like our battle scars, lol. I do wish women can appreciate their flaws and stop comparing ourselves with one another. We are unique in our own ways.
It almost seems like a conspiracy sometimes. Why else would our entire society revolve around a notion of "beautiful" that is unhealthy, unrealistic, and shaped nothing like a women. we even do it to each other and are oblivious to it. Telling a friend they should wear the blue dress because it makes their hips look smaller. or whatever. I'm as guilty as anyone else. We try to be supportive, but in actuality we're just adding to the idea the skinny is beautiful.
I used diet pills in the past. ith the ones I used it was either ineffective, or as soon as I stopped taking them all the weight came right back. Like you said you have to change those habits.
