There is far too much pressure on people - particularly young people - to look good these days, and using diet pills is just one of the many ways that this is done. I think people need to be taught to look after their bodies and to love them. Sure, if you're overweight then you should lose weight, but the problem lies with people who are actually a healthy weight but believe that they need to do something in order to be thinner, when this is certainly not the case. People can often push their bodies too far, and education needs to occur in order to ensure that this is not happening anymore.
The only thing that comes to mind is the movie "Requiem for a dream" where the mother abuses these pills and ends up loosing her memory and everything. It was a very sad ending. It should never happen in real life. Never!
You are right! If we learn to appreciate our unique bodies, there would be no need for skinny shaming or fat shaming or curvy shaming. All body sizes are beautiful especially if it is healthy. There are petite, voluptuous or chubby bodies. They are all gorgeous bodies!
I agree! As long as a person is active and healthy, there is no need to shame their body type. Some just have naturally big thighs, some have thigh gaps. I do not and I am fine with it. Some skinny people are unhealthy too. Not all curvy people are unhealthy. We really do not know all people's stories unless we are in their shoes. I know someone who is very active and plays sports and eats healthy but she still has a curvy body type.
When I was younger I used to be obsessed with diet pills, I even got to the point where I would steal them because I couldn't afford them. In hindsight I don't even really think they did much of anything but I went crazy for them. There needs to be some sort of program for poor people to be able to eat healthy foods so they don't have to be fat. I'm not sure about other countries but in Canada vegetables are absurdly expensive. I work out every other day (except for two resting days) but weight loss is 80% diet based and I can't afford to buy vegetables so I'm not really sure what to do. I learned my lesson about diet pills and this article definitely helped to cement that, but I'm not sure what to do.
My aunt was addicted to diet pills, she messed up her metabolism so badly as a result, but she used so many different kinds of diet pills. She had to have a lot surgeries (in the last years) to have the body she has always wanted. So many face and body surgeries, she no longer looks like herself at all.
I've met people before who are just ridiculous skinny. The kind of skinny where a size 0 isn't small enough. And when someone lets themself get to that point, (and it doesn't happen naturally, either), they remind me of pictures I've seen of concentration camps. I just feel so sad and horrible for them that I want to shove a bunch of carbs in their mouth.
We are lucky to live in a place where we have a garden full of vegetables. We do not spend money on most vegetables we need. Although, fruits and vegetables in our country are pretty affordable, it is poultry or meat that are expensive. I do agree that diet is an important part of losing weight. The moment I have switched to eating mostly fruits and veggies, I saw a drastic change in my body weight. It is quite sad that vegetables are not affordable in Canada.
I've been told by a lot of people, the best first step is to cut your portions down. Thats my current method, combined with jogging everyday.
I do agree with the cutting your portions part. I started limiting my rice intake and I just ate more of proteins. Before, people comment so much on my weight as I am really thin prior to giving birth. Now, no one comments anymore lol.
I never thought that diet pills are safe so, I never ever tried those. I do not have friends who got addicted to those diet pills although some have tried it as far as I know. Better to lose weight naturally than depend on those diet pills that might have side effects.
I know exactly what you mean! I live in the middle of nowhere, so people aren't walking around out here. 3 years ago, when I was skinny, I couldn't walk 1/2 a mile before someone offered me a ride. But now? Not one person (except our mailman), has offered to help or just ask if everything is ok.
People notice only skinny/sexy ladies! How sad for us! It is okay though as I have a son who loves my jiggles and fats lol. At least your mailman cares about you, thank goodness for nice people.
A girl that went to the same college as me was addicted to diet pills. She was quite attractive and had a very nice figure. If I remember correctly, she worked as a model on a part-time basis. I guess, she became overly self-conscious or suffered self-esteem issues to start taking diet pills. She didn't really need them but perhaps the pressures of modelling drove her down this road.
I remember when i was young I met a girl obsessed with being thin. This was my first time dealing with an anerexic person. Simply due to lack of life experience I didn't know this was a condition until years later. It was sad seeing how she thought she was fat but clearly she was skinny. I have never heard of someone dying from diet pills but I hope this doesn't become a epidemic.
I've heard about it being lethal. I had a friend in high school who was addicted to them. I didn't know they could even be addicting at the time.
Why take diet pills when you can do it the natural way. I think that's just being lazy. You have to eat the right kinds of food to speed up your metabolism and exercise . If you don't need to loose weight there's no point in doing that to yourself. I think doing it a more natural way is the safest way to loose weight anyway.
I used to take diet pills, the ones with ephedra/ephedrine before it became illegal in the USA. They really felt like speed the first couple days but then I quickly developed a tolerance and didn't notice those side effects. However they really never helped me lose weight, the only thing that's ever helped is being consistent over a long period of time with diet and exercise. There's no reason to try something with potentially deadly side effects.
That's such a tragic story, I hope others will not consume diet pills anymore after reading that story and just opt for the natural way when it comes to losing weight. It was partly the victim's fault that she died because she overdosed on it, so may her story serve as a warning for others.
I have never used diet pills. I do take a lot of fruit juice if I don't feel like eating. I have found out that if one does not feel like, he can join his friends or family members to eat together. If you are sick, try eat a new type of food that you have never eaten.
