There have been a lot of studies showing that marijuana affects peoples memory. Do you feel that you have lost some of your ability to remember because of smoking marijuana ?

It definitely causes short term memory loss without a doubt. It does seem to be temporary though even after long term use, I don't think it's permanent. After quitting you often find little memories of things coming back to you that you hadn't thought about for ages. It's really until you reach that point that you begin to realize how it affected you.

I think it does tend to have an affect on your memory, but whether it is long term loss or not I do not know. I have suffered with it while smoking marijuana, but I have found that my memory is worse now that I have had children. I noticed a big change while I was pregnant with my first child. I know people who have smoked for a long time and I do not notice a significant change in their memory other than what you would find in someone who is getting on in years.

Well that might explain what happens to a youngster around me who seems to be forgetting things his young brain should remember. Some have joked that he needs to stop smoking so much weed but it's probably not a laughing matter after all.

Whilst dealing with my own addiction to marijuana, I have noticed quite the impact to my own memory. Besides forgetting about small, simple things here and there, I have noticed it is harder for me to bring up and learn new information. For example, I am a student currently obtaining my Associate's degree and I have found it much harder for myself to study and recall what I thought would be basic information. This is generally after a prolonged session with marijuana earlier in the day.

I absolutely think it has affected my memory. There are things I can't remember from years ago. Sometimes my friends and I will be talking, and everyone will remind me of something we all did together, and I have no recollection whatsoever. It's terrible. In a way it's like I wasn't even there at all, and that makes me feel like whole parts of my life are being erased.

Research seems to show that using marijuana will lead to long term memory impairment on young people who use it. I don't know if adults who smoke marijuana will also be affected thusly but there are some marijuana smokers who seem to forget things easily so there's a likelihood that it might also to some extent have the same effect on adults.

That is true but whether that memory loss is permanent or not is still under debate. The have been a certain amount of studies done that do show that if you start smoking at a early age it does seem to affect the ability to remember permanently but in the case of adults more studies have to be done.

Marijuana causes temporary memory loss, but it's not permanent. All of the side effects of marijuana are temporary and mild. I have stopped smoking for some time now and can still remember things pretty well. After not smoking for a while I feel I'm still in pretty good health.

Did you smoke a lot or were you an occasional smokers?

I'm not to sure if marijuana affects all users in the same manner, but I would say it does. I once worked with someone that was a weed smoker and he had trouble remembering things. He was generally a pleasant guy, but it was frustrating working with him as this affected our efficiency and productivity levels.

I've read several studies on this subject, but I have no personal experience with it, because marijuana never did a thing to me. So I didn't stick smoking it :/ But youngsters should be really careful with marijuana, because the thing has been proven to be the cause of a lower IQ in adults who smoked it when they were teens.

I've had memory issues ever since I was kid. When I smoked marijuana everything was considerably worse, I could never remember anything, where I was going, what I was saying or doing remain mysteries to this day. Yet it was only when I smoked, I can tell it had no long term efect at all as it would be very evident. My father has memory problems too and he never smoked marijuana, its genetic or something, right now my memory is way better than it was before, so no long term damage at all.

I am pretty sure it messes up your short term memory. I know many of my friends who smoke pot would have trouble remembering many things on a short time scale. It could be them, or the marijuana not really sure though!

I strongly believe that marijuana does effect your memory. I have a friend who smokes the stuff like crazy and she is constantly forgetting things and messes up with the smallest of life tasks. It is really sad because she forgets to do small things like call people back when she needs to and go about life's business. She also has the tendency to be very lazy.
  17. I've been a regular smoker for quite a while, but have recently cut back pretty significantly. Marijuana definitely affects my short-term memory while I'm under the influence and for several hours afterwards, but I don't really notice much of a difference when I'm not. For me, I don't think it has any impact on my long-term memory, but it is one of those things that you can't really ever know for sure.

It definitely effects short term memory, but it has never effected long term memory. The short term effects are only temporary, so I wouldn't worry about it too much in terms of memory. I regain my short term memory only a few hours after the effect has worn off.

Well it certainly has an effect while I'm high, LOL!

Selective marijuana memory. I'm trying to think. Think about people I know who smoke a lot. How their memory is. Yeah, come to think of it. Their memories are pretty bad. I'm pretty sure it destroys brain cells. But you know what there are plenty of people with bad memories that don't smoke marijuana. Prescription drug users have memory problems. Workaholics who don't get enough sleep and eat enough. I think these two have worse memories than the pot smokers. Kind of scary for them.
