What do you think about these two addictions and how they are linked. I believe they have a pretty close link, I saw a lot of people when they drank they started losing the number of cigarettes they smoked and vice-versa, they couldn't count how much they drank because they would smoke. I remember even myself getting wasted because of this stupid combination one time, I ended up vomiting all over a restaurant's bathroom floor. I know people say that this combination is being deadly many times, but I don't know the exact numbers. What do you think about this combination? Have you ever used it? Do you think that by drinking a lot you get to smoke easier also?

I could also observed that those who drink are usually smokers too. Specially if you will going to observe in the clubs. Maybe because you can both easily buy cigarettes and alcohol since these two are not illegal and so, one can easily get addicted to both.

I've noticed they were possibly linked too. From personal experience, everyone I have ever known that does one seems to always do the other. It's as if they go hand in hand

I was one who drank but never smoked. I have known plenty of people who have done both, though. In fact, some would say “I only smoke when I drink.” I do think it has a lot to do with the fact that they’re legal and readily available. And maybe for the ones who only smoke when they drink, it has something to do with lowered inhibitions while drinking. Or they’re thinking “Well, I’m already engaging in one unhealthy habit, it won’t make much difference if I start doing this now, too.”

They are probably somewhat linked but honestly as a smoker I have to say that cigarettes are just as good with coffee as it is with beer so I don't think the relation is all that concrete. I think it still boils down to the individual like with any other consumable product. I have lots of friends who only drink but never smoke, and I have some friends who smoke but don't like drinking.

I have to agree, I know that in the past, when I drank alcohol, I always tended to smoke a lot more than I would do normally aswell.

Yes, it seems common that many drinkers tend to smoke as well. Personally I've never been fond of either, even though I did do drugs at one point. Generally I think drinking and smoking will absolutely damage one's health significantly. I've also found that people that abuse these two substances also age very quickly, often looking 10 - 20 years older than they actually are.

I know some people smoke only when they drink or when they are drunk so yeah, I believe there is a connection.

If you're a drinker and a smoker, smoking while drinking is a must. You can smoke without drinking, but you can't drink without smoking. If this combination makes you sick, I have to say you're neither a drinker or a smoker. Social drinkers and smokers haven't developed the tolerance to go over a certain limit of drinking or smoking. While you might get dizzy with a drink and a couple of smokes, an usual drinker\smoker gets dizzy with a bottle coupled with a pack of smokes or a whole lot more. It all depends on how often you do it.

I think drinking and smoking usually go hand-in-hand. When I used to drink I also smoked a lot too. I noticed that the more I smoked, the more I get to tolerate the spirit of alcohol which in turn makes me drink more. Good thing I'm already out of that lifestyle anymore.

I agree, the same happened to me, the more I smoked, the more I got to tolerate the spirit of alcohol, the more I tolerated the more I smoked, endless circle. I'm also out of that lifestyle.

I actually know a lot of people who don't smoke but still drink a ton, and vice versa. A lot of people I know don't smoke cigarettes but will drink like sailors until the break of dawn.

I wouldn't say that these two addictions are linked. Some people like smoking, some like drinking alcohol, while others like mixing the two. It depends on the person who is consuming these substances. Remember though, if you mix substances together, you may create new harmful side-effects. For alcohl and smoking, it doesn't seem too severe for most users. But, always be careful.

I don't know that they are linked but they do seem coincide often. What I find odd are people that don't smoke unless they are drinking. It always seemed strange to me and I never understood it. Why do some people only smoke when they drink?

I use to drink but I never smoked. I thought it was a deisgusting habit. But of all the parties I went to most people did both. Thank god I never took to it. I don't see how they find any pleasure out of smoking.

I was never a smoker either. I never picked up the habit and never likes it when people smoked around me. I know of this one girl that has told me that she only smokes when she drinks alcohol which I found a bit odd.

I know persons like that too, but for some reason I can't believe that these persons doesn't become addicts after a period of time. It's not natural smoking only when you drink, I too have few friends who smokes cigarettes/cigars at some big occasions, but they never inhale it to the chest.

Well, I could see the link between them in myself. Whenever I wanted to smoke, I would have a glass of beer and/or other alcoholic beverage, and vice-versa.
Though I should also mention that there were times when I didn't want to have any due to momentary happiness, which concludes the fact I smoked and/or drank if and only if I felt sad over someone/something.

When I was addicted to alcohol and smoking cigarettes were "dissapearing" out of my pocket. I was losing count of how many I was smoking since booze made me lose count.
It is a very toxic combination, it can damage a lot of your vital organs.

I feel like people just feel like they have to smoke and drink at the same time, which makes no sense to me. Maybe it makes the beer taste better. Who knows.
