Where can I go about finding a support group for my wife and I to help understand a child with a herion addiction ?
@OOFFAJONNY... Welcome to the community. Have you tried Nar-Anon or Al-Anon meetings? They are support groups for loved ones of people struggling with addiction. My wife and I attended meetings of both groups when our son was going through his heroin addiction. Here are links to their websites. Both sites have a "Find a Meeting" link. Nar-Anon Al-Anon I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. We are here to help and support you any way we can. Peace and hugs.
In my area we have several churches who offer support groups for family members of addicts. Both of my parents are addicts. I know it can be difficult and upsetting, but you are making an awesome step in the right direction.
That's great to hear, @ashwee5991. @OOFFAJONNY... Maybe you could check with churches in your area to see if they might offer the same?
Your family can help you with you addiction if you just admit to them that you are an user. If you don't, they can't help you. They surely will support you no matter what, because the love of parents and their children is one of the most powerful things in the world.
There are thousands of online help groups that can help you. Consider talking to the child first before you can look for further assistance. Try to know what made him to be addicted to the drug. Find out about his friends and suggest if he can avoid them. By knowing all that then you have a chance to save him from drugs.
Hello. Welcome to the community. I find online communities like this forum very helpful. There are plenty of people who are willing to help and are very fast in answering questions. You can also find so many other forums like this and support groups online. If you look around your community or ask around, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a local support group.
They are out there. It is great that you found a place like this because an online community is certainly a little more convenient than a traditional support group. If you want that though they are certainly out there as well, and I would suggest just doing a little research and looking up some professionals in the area and they will be able to help you.
I agree with @rz3300@ about online communities. Not only can they be convenient but offer some privacy if that is a concern. It can be more relaxing and enables you to concentrate on what you want to talk about without the interactions that occur in a group setting.
Just wanted to pop in and say I'm really happy that you are seeking help and resources for you and your wife. Your local rehab places may be able to refer you to a group that can help. Many rehab facilities encourage family participation or offer separate counseling for family members of addicts. Very sorry you two are struggling with an addicted child, that must be so scary.
