Fentanyl overdose

If one is addicted to durogesic patches (100 micrograms every 2 days on the skin and abuses it by chewing the patch he is supposed to throw away when he changes his patch), Is it still possible for this person to overdose ?

Please I would really appriciate someone knowledgeable about fentanyl addiction to respond as quickly as possible.

Hey Dominica. Thanks for your response and research. I hope there are others on this site who are as actively involved and helpful as you clearly are.

How are you doing in your travels? Find any assistance?

Narconon has offered assistance. But their assistance is a non drug (effectively a cold turkey ) approach to detox. As all the literature I have found advises against home detox and cold turkey withdraw... I am really concerned about this.

I am scared Dominica. There may be a time when I may no longer be able to afford my habit and as I cannot afford treatment... I may be screwed.

I don't want to die Dominica. But I am so scared of a long drawn out death from withdraw.

I am going to Albania soon. I doubt that there are treatment options for me there, but three months after I go there, I will be able to return to the Schengen area again.

    So that's the update.

thank you for the update. i don't know a ton about Narconon (though i will research for future reference), but it seems to me i'd rather go through the detox than keep risking overdose...and misery.

they do say this on their site:

(When a physician deems it medically necessary, Narconon refers students for a distinct medically supervised withdrawal as a prerequisite to beginning the Narconon program.)

Would it be possible to discuss your concerns with the withdrawal specialist? When are you set to begin detox?

I am totally rooting for you... I know you're tired, and scared... and I pray and set the intent for easy detox, miraculous really. For the courage and strength to move forward with optimism and power. Remember who you are.

Always here to listen. Sending hug.

@True concern i'm not sure what you mean....

We haven't heard from @loser in a while, but I know he was traveling out of the country....so maybe some internet connection issues. I do hope he is doing better and has found some help!

Don't be confused, @True concern. Sometimes a moderator will slightly "edit" a post if there's a blatant misspelling, a formatting issue, a person's name referenced that could affect the anonymity of the poster or another party, an inappropriate link included, etc. But rest assured...if a post is edited--and it is a rare occurrence--the substance of the post is not affected. You have my word on that.

I will be leaving Albania this Sunday for Belgium . I was not able to find treatment for my fentanyl addiction. I thought I had, but it turned out to be false hope.

    I am getting really scared.

As I doubt that I will ever be able to afford the suboxin strips does anyone know if methadone would work on a fentanyl addiction ? (Keeping in mind that I take a 100 patch every 2 days and chew the patch I was supposed to discard. )

I’m so sorry you are suffering with this. Having fear means that you haven’t given up yet though. I would be more worried if you weren’t scared! But I still don’t want you to be hurting. I wish I was able to help you with answers to your questions, but unfortunately I am not able. We’re always here for you, not-a-@loser.

Methadone is basically just your first hit of dope every day.It has a very short life maybe lasting 2-3 hour's at most which will only increase your addiction considering you use the 100 Mcg patch every other day.And from my own experience the patch last three days if taken properly,so as you "Chew"on the patch you must get quite a bit of gel out making you i would assume "node"off and that probably happens for a few hour's.Your addiction and tolerance is at a point where it appears to have stabilized somewhat however every time you "Chew" that patch you risk it slowing the rate at which you breathe to the point each node out may be your last.To answer your question from month's ago YES you can over dose.I want you to if you would look around this site in these forums.I have roughly 600 post throughout the site,i have spent month's working on myself and supplying advice and support to other's,when i came to this site i was considering whether or not to keep trying or to give up and do that fatal last shot.I read story after story searching for a reason why?Why should I keep going i felt no one cared and at that time i ran across your post.I read your post and decided i would open up for the first time ever and reach out for help, your story, struggle, fear, and desire to get help gave me the strength and courage to reach out on this site,so from the bottom of my heart I Thank You for being so courageous and sincere because it is a huge factor in my decision to reach out honestly and openly.I thank god im alive,im not bragging about this infact i am ashamed of it but i have basically OD'd i don't even know how many times but also i have been pronounced dead and a nurse's plea with the Dr are the reason i am able to type this today as without her plea he would not have hit me the 3rd time with the defibrillator and my heart would've never started back up.Sorry i got off track a bit im scatter brained a lot of time's.So here is the immediate risk of the methadone,if you were on day 2 and you just chewed the patch and shortly after took the methadone your breathing will slow and you could die very soon after Plus i assume you would also have a new patch on soaking into your blood stream so as you node out after the methadone and chewing the old patch the new patch would continue to deliver fentanyl while you were nodded out and I believe you would not survive that as it would be like 3 max doses at one time. Please if you can switch from fentanyl to suboxone. At the level your at and considering your now also considering methadone it tells me your addiction is growing and indeed your life is on the line now more than before even. Please avoid the methadone it does not help keep or even get a person sober it is just a bullshit thing that might as well say morning dose of heroin clinic. There are people on this site who are very educated with opioid addiction and together we try our best to help educate. @Josh111187 has a lot of experience with this struggle first hand as do i.You know this wonderful person and she has truly helped me alot @Dominica then there is this man here who is like my big brother, always with the word's to inspire and motivate with the knowledge to steer people into the right direction @deanokat then this beautiful soul always digging and asking questions so she can better understand and the encouragement she has provided is why i now attend NA meetings @Cametobelieve0202 and then we got our other beautiful soul who finds beauty in life in it's simplicity, she is currently gluing "Pretty"rock's to her entire house lol J/K but she does love nature and the beauty and serenity it supplies @lonewolves and combined these people are my friend's,counselors, supporters, and my family.I love each of these individuals they help keep me going so please know there are people here who truly care and help in various ways as well in this group of names myself and @Josh111187 know first hand what this addiction has to offer which is nothing but misery and death.I am so happy to hear from you,i have waited month's to speak to you and try to offer answers as best i can to questions you have. Please stick around and allow this community to be there for you as much as we can.YOU MATTER and obviously we want to see you get better and I have wanted to say this for so long......YOU ARE NOT A LOSER YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING THAT DESERVES TO BE HAPPY AND IS WORTHY OF LIVING.STAY STRONG AND GOD BLESS YOU

@loser... I'm sorry you couldn't find treatment in Albania. I hope Belgium proves to be a better place in that regard. Also, I have no idea if methadone would work for a fentanyl addiction. I don't have the medical/scientific knowledge to answer that question. I think it would be best to ask a medical professional.

Praying for you and sending you positive juju and hope.
