As has been mentioned on here before you can get addicted to anything. I like gum myself so it is not inconceivable to be addicted to it. The only real downside to that I can see is that it is not very good for your teeth. Sugarfree gum is probably preferable. However, I always am worried I could pull out my fillings. Just gradually phase it out.
Chewing gum? Well, when I was a kid, I really, really liked it. Although, I was fond of it back then, I do not think that it would count as an addiction. Anyone here familiar with Bazooka Bubble Gum? I use to buy lots of it. And the main reason why I bought tons of chewing gum back then was because of the free comics, the gum was just secondary. If anything, I think I was addicted to the comics, and not the gum itself.
LOL, oh yes! I was actually going to post something about my excessive use of gum. I was also thinking that this may be too silly to post. I’m glad to see that I am not alone. I think for me it’s more of a habit than addiction. I go through a lot of gum. I will put 2 or 3 pieces in my mouth at one time. I will chew after drinking my coffee, if I am stressed, when I get on the computer, when I am reading etc. I feel strange when I run out, and I actually have to go and buy more. There are no withdrawal symptoms other than I just want more. It’s not like not drinking coffee and getting a headache.
I don't think I'm addicted to gum despite chewing it basically every day. I just like the freshness it gives me. It would be like asking if I was addicted to brushing my teeth! It's just a habit for me
Not really an addiction in my books. I would call it a habit or a liking. I don't know many people who don't like gum, but perhaps its always best to regulate things in life. Too much of anything is bad!
When I was trying to quit nicotine addiction (in the form of smoking and chewing tobacco), I used to have lots of gum in order to keep my mouth busy. My teeth hurt because of constant chewing, but I continued chewing. My nicotine addiction cured, but I had problem with gum addiction. I switched gum with cardamom.
No you didn't. Unless it was nicotine gum specifically, and then it would be the nicotine not the gum.
I had a dental appointment on last week and decided to ask my dentist about chewing gum all the time. He said that as long as it is sugar free then it’s not really a problem. He says it becomes a problem when one is chewing to the point where their jaw is aching, then it’s best to either stop or slow down. He says that it more than likely helps because when you chew you help to rid the teeth/gums of food and bacteria.
I was having serious problems in my primary school. I was chewing constantly. I believe it was only in my sleep that I didn't have a gum. I remember having all kinds of gums with me. We especially liked those shock gums if that is their name. Orbit came later and I was hooked to honey and lemon which I cannot find any longer.
