For me, I was a marijuana user at the time and hadn't been able to get any for several weeks. A family member who was a heroin user had some on him the one day and he offered. He wasn't sure if I had ever done it before or not. I was reluctant at first but I already knew the dangers and I already knew that I would never ever do it again so I tried it. I don't regret doing so because I didn't like it, it was disgusting. I would never, however, even consider injecting any king of drug ever. I think that whenever someone is even slightly tempted to inject anything into their body, they have hit rock bottom.

So, the lack of one drug lead down the path to try others. Do you think that that gives validation to the whole "gateway drug" argument when it comes to smoking/MJ/drinking? Does usage of one leave the door open to the usage of others? I smoked MJ for a long time, but never went any farther, other than trying some stuff once or twice. Despite being an MJ smoker, I've never had a cigarette, but I know I've been around it a lot and had many opportunities to do so. What do you think?

Yes, I have, by a couple of friends. I even tried, but luckily I didn't like it at all, and I was very surprised when I found out that it could give you addiction the very first time you try it. I think I was very lucky indeed.

No, I haven't. I know people who use heroin or have used some in the past. Their stories are not exactly cool. There is also the fact that I'm not exactly the experimenting type of guy. This is sometimes a bad thing but I guess this time it protects me from such influences. If some of my closest friends starts doing it, I'm certain I will not join him. On the contrary, I'll try everything to make him stop and show him why his choice is not wise.

Thankfully, no. The closest I have ever come to a temptation was whenever I saw a movie that had a heroin trip scene in it. I thought the scene was cool, but I did not like what it was portraying.

Personal experience has to play a significant part in the decision making process too. I hear it all the time, "I'll do this this and this, but not this." It depends on how we feel about certain drugs, our experiences and exposures to those lifestyles too. It's hard to say.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not judgmental in any way to anyone who has tried it however, no I have never been tempted to try it. The side effects of it scare the crap out of me so that's enough to keep me away from it.

I have been offered heroin by so many of my friends when I was in college but I always refused it. It was seen as a lifestyle item and people used to feel good about using heroin.

But for me it was poison because it killed one of my best friends in his youth. Each time someone offered me heroin my friends face used come in front of me. Thanks to my late friend I have been able to keep away from heroin throughout my life.

I've never been tempted to try heroin and I have to say I don't know anybody who has done it either.

I think wit. a drug as dangerous as this, people are well aware of the impact it can cause and so I dint think it's a drug people just try for the sake of it.

No I have not been tempted to try herion, mostly because how strong and powerful the drug is.

Never in my life and I never will be. I've always looked at it as something not desirable and a stupid thing to do. No offence to those struggling but I think you shouldn't go there at all because there's nothing fun about it and there's nothing interesting about it, there are far greater things in life than that. I would rather be a drunkard than be someone who is addicted to heroin because it's such a difficult situation.

Luckily it is never sold around. I live in a town where we have less heroine users. I think that is an advantage also to the youth around. Most people here abuse marijuana and alcohol and I guess if heroine was being sold here, that could be another added problem.

I was very close to trying it, and that was just because I was curious about what's all the rave about it. Luckily I never got around to it so I let the idea die.
I'm lucky I never had to do anything with it.

Asking if someone ever was tempted to try heroin is like asking if someone ever been tempted to suffer a slow and painfully death. Come on, if you feel the urge to try drugs, you start with pot, cocaine or antidepressants, why would you go for something as strong as it's heroin?

No, fortunately no, although I had so many god damn opportunities (my school was quite the toxic environment) but I have turned my back on all of them. I simply wasn't that curious to try heroin and thanks God my friends had the same will power as me!

I wonder, how many other people feel "dirty, tired, groggy and greasy", yet continue because they are just too hooked to be able to physically and psychologically stop?

Good question. I am thinking some people do know even have a line, so it is not even a matter of crossing the line. So for those individuals, in recovery, it is only after they crossed this line, did they realize it was one they should have never crossed.

To be honest I think a lot of addicts probably feel this way. Not just with Heroin but with other substances also, especially alcohol. We all know what it's like to have a hangover but imagine what it must be like to wake up with one every morning (or afternoon) because of an addiction. At the end of the day, all addicts have to face up to the 'come down' regardless of what form it takes.

When I was growing up I always said I would never try heroin or meth at all. After a while, I tried both and since then haven't been able to stop. Then I said I would never shoot up... When money for tight I ended up crossing that too. I keep redrawing the line, whether it be never to steal for dope, steal from loved ones, or whatever it be, my addiction has taken me across all of them.

Well, we always end up crossing the line, I guess it's in our human nature, but that doesn't mean at all we can't change, actually I think it's better to cross the line, this way you know what lies on the other side and why you shouldn't cross it again. There is always space to move back and never cross that line again, you just have to believe in yourself.

Same here. I don't exactly know much about both of those and all the information I have is mostly from movies and tv shows and even then not much is really said to give me enough of an education but all I really need to know is that they are hardcore and it's probably best for me to stay away from them. I've heard from some people who are able to use it while functioning in society but I personally just couldn't risk it.
