Heroin is quickly overtaking both weed and meth as the popular drug in many suburban areas...not just urban areas anymore. I live in a large metro area where you can drive from the heart of the city to rural areas in about an hour. Weed has always been popular, like in most cities. My state and area was also meth capitol of the world about 5 years ago. It was one of the first areas to start logging and tracking purchases of Sudafed because meth was being manufactured so heavily in the rural areas. It was a complete epidemic.
But now, heroin has become the popular drug for teens and young adults in the nicer areas of the suburbs. It was always thought of as kind of a 'ghetto' drug but now it's getting almost as popular as weed. We even have billboards going up all over with the death %s from it and other facts.

I feel like more and more people are going to be battling this drug as it grows out of control.

It is a frightening drug and one that you can never truly recover from and it is so easily available. It is the rug of choice on the street and the effects are absolutely devastating.

I made a separate thread about my heroin experience that was just about 3 months ago if I remember right... heh, it wasn't anything special to me and trust me that in that day I was never that happy because I heard so many stories of addicted people that were never able to recover and died due to an horrible overdose, and the fact I didn't like it and felt a rather repeling sensation toward it, really brightened my day. Never doing this again!

Now concerning your thread... it's a truly bad drug that no one should ever touch! I agree it's overtaking weed at a fast pace, and nobody's doing anything unfortunately.

There actually is some stuff starting in my city to combat its spread as such a popular drug. Seeing quite a few billboards popping up with the death statistics on heroin use and such. Quite a few local news stations have done segments also. Some featuring young people who got addicted and are now in recovery, others featuring the families of people who were not as lucky.
On a nation-wide level though...nope, barely anything seems to be happening to address its rising popularity

In New Zealand many people are addicted to hillbilly heroin, which is mostly from prescriptions which is administered for pain or some injury which can cause an addiction to occur, and one woman gained 26 kilos in a few months which was shocking. I reckon this can occur due to the body not accepting the medicine and a reaction can occur, or sometimes a person has to take the medicine to live which can cause other things. The young people sometimes do this as they are in an environment where it is normal and also peer pressure can also be another reason for this to happen.

I can believe meth, but weed? Where did you get that statistic? Or is it just more your opinion and what you've seen? Don't know if you're in a profession or not to see that kind of switch, but it seems kind of hard to believe that a major drug would overtake weed, which is so popular among youth.

Regardless, it still amazes me with how much information about the harmful affects of drugs there is, that people still get hooked on hard drugs.

My question in all this is: how can teens and young adults pay for the heroin? As far as I know, heroin isn't cheap. Where do they get the money for it? From their parents? Or has heroin suddenly become cheaper for some reason?
I wonder what is really going on behind the scenes...

    That is really bad news.
The harm that garbage inflicts on people and society is just horrendous.
There has to be a way to stop this trend!

Part of is the black market's doing. With weed becoming legal in two states (and trickling over from other states because there's no real way to stop it), dealers lose their customers fast. They and their suppliers will drop prices on harder drugs in order to stay in business.

Something tells me that these statistics aren't true haha.

Weed is really becoming much more popular, so I agree with you. This just does not seem like it is correct to me.

I don't think heroin has gotten cheaper unless someone has found a cheaper way of making it. It would be counter-intuitive to just drop the prices like that.

Really? We must live in very different places then, as where I live everyone smokes pot while heroin users are sort of outcasts.

Where I live you can never get heroine. Since I was young, I just hear stories about heroine,I have never seen it and nobody near me has ever used it. There is a lot of weed being grown around, and gin goes at $2 per 700ml bottle.
