Have you experienced people who have phobia for flying and decide to get high every time they need to take a flight? I feel sorry for those with this type of phobia but I would prefer if they took sleeping pills instead. I have been on flights where people with phobias decide to take sleeping pills to avert the fear of flying. Are there other ways of handling this phobia without being a high flyer?
In my years of travelling, I haven't encountered anyone who has a phobia of flying and took drugs to get high on a flight. And anyway, won't it get noticed if a passenger on a plane is high on drugs?
I know those that absolutely need to drink before they get on a flight. I'm not sure about getting high. It seems like that would be counterproductive for anxiety.
I've only met people that need a drink or two to calm their nerves before a flight. But I've never come across anyone that was high on cocaine, or any other drug before getting on a plane. I'm sure there are instances where this occurs, but I've just never had any personal experience with folks like these.
I've never known anyone who would get high or take any type of upper before a flight. I believe that would make it a hundred times worse of an experience. Most people would rather drink or take something that will knock them out.
There are plenty of natural remedies that will help you alleviate your fear of flying. Visualization and breathing exercises work very well. Also auto-suggestions. There are many different techniques that you can try out before you reach for drugs. I suspect that in quite a few cases people take drugs as an excuse, like my friend who reaches for a cognac every time there is some "drama" in her life, real or imagined.
In my worst years, I could barely step on a plane unless I was very, very inebriated. Luckily, this was before cabin crew were overly twitchy about "problem" passengers, for obvious reasons. I think I'd be marched off after touch-down if I behaved the same way nowadays!
I'd take something to help me sleep during a flight, but I always travel with my handbag... and well, I just can't trust the other passengers. You never know, someone might end up looking into my bag and maybe taking something... it has happened to me while traveling by train.
There's no other way around anyone's flying phobia except to be constantly exposed to flying until your nerves get used to it. If you want to reach places that can never be reached through land transportation, then flying is the only option available. Unless you're willing to endure the longwinding and even scarier prospect of sea travel.
