Hey, Ive been told that I should be careful that Im not addicted to caffeine.. but I think thats the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. I dont think its a drug, all it is is an enhancement. If anything it makes you better. How can you get addicted? How can you tell if you are addicted? what are the side affects?
Well, you can become addicted to almost anything, specially if you have an addictive personality. So yes, you can become addictied to caffeine, totally. I have met people who seem uncapable to have a normal day without their morning coffee. My granda used to drink at least 8 cups coffee a day. I'd not see a caffeine addiction as something to really stress about tho.
Caffeine addiction is absolutely possible. There was a time when I was pulling consecutive all-nighters due to AP exams and drinking coffee to keep me awake. Following the exams, I had to have five cups a day to keep me awake and stave off a blistering headache. I have since limited my intake to 1-2 cups a day. However, if I do not have at least one cup, I still have a headache to deal with, and I cannot function (I tend to doze off in the middle of work). Caffeine is definitely a drug, and it is definitely addictive.
Any chemical, including some naturally produced in the human body can be addictive and any chemical that changes your mental or physical state of being is a drug. Nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine are legal drugs and can all be addictive. caffeine addiction can happen very easily and you won't notice cause it's in many many things. You can tell if you are addicted by the side effects. Withdrawal symptoms (i.e. shakiness, paranoia, and constantly wanting something with caffeine in it), headaches when you don't have it. Caffeine is a chemical with physically addictive properties meaning your body needs it and wont function right without it. this happens to many heroine users. Other drugs have mentally addictive factors, meaning you are addicted to the feeling you have when you are on it. Marijuana is an example of this. Your body won't react badly or shut down not having it, but, you can experience horrible depression without it.
Well just stop drinking it and see. Withdrawal is severe if you are use to drinking a lot every day. I watched a friend sweat and get nervous because he was cutting back on coffee. If that is not like coming off of a drug I don't know what is.
^ I second ALL of that. If it wasn't something you could be addicted to, it wouldn't have the withdrawal effects that it does. I've had to quit caffeine before and it was AWFUL. Sleepiness with sleeplessness. Anxiety, sweating, trembling, crying, shivering, shaking.... heart palpitations.
Caffeine is a drug. Ever have too much and start to shake? It's a psycho-stimulant! It's not 'powerful' or harmful in small doses. It's recommended not to drink more than the caffeine equivalent of 3 cups a day. You can become addicted to caffeine, and once people who are addicted to caffeine try to stop drinking it, they undergo withdrawal. Headache, drowsiness, etc. If you want to know if you're addicted, try to go a couple days without it and see how you feel!!
If you find a new carbon bike for less than $1000, it's probably a piece of junk. Just my opinion though.
Yes, it's possible. I know a friend who's been addicted to caffeine, he had to have at least 5 coffees, 2 red bulls a day and he always drank litres of coke. However, he got a psychiatrist and got better. Now he drinks caffeine drinks in normal range.
When you consider the amount of people that can't seem to get through the day without their morning coffee, I'd have to say yes lol
I use to think that I couldn't be addicted to caffeine. I love cola soda with caffeine and every time I quit drinking it for awhile, I feel like I'm having withdrawal symptoms and feel like my body is craving it. So yes I do think that a person can be addicted to caffeine.
Carbon bike? I'm confused as to what this has to do with this thread's topic. LOL Ok, so yeah, like the others have said, try going without it and you'll see the addiction is actually pretty strong. Although, personally, I wouldn't recommend trying it. I've done it and it was horrible. Best thing would be to taper off slowly.
Of course it is possible. I used to be addicted to caffeine and it was driving me insane due to the amounts of caffeine that I would consume. These days I'm actually caffeine free and I haven't been drinking caffeine or coffee and I'm just so happy that way, I feel more natural energy.
I wouldn't say I'm addicted to coffee, but some people suggests caffeine may be more addictive than we realize, leading to a habit that can be tough to kick. I enjoy its great taste and turn to coffee to get my energy boost for the day. But, while many people can consume caffeine without harm, for some it produces negative effects, and maybe a physical dependence.
Yes - I would say without a doubt it's addictive. I was always a coffee drinker but when I had my baby I was drinking so many cups a day just to have the energy and stamina to get through the day. Then even trying to wean down my intake was tough - extreme headaches, irritability, overall lethargy...it was rough. I'm down to a manageable amount of caffeine a day now, but I definitely overdid it for a while and it was hard to cut back.
I think it's possible. I've had about 32oz of coffee everyday for about a year now. Whenever I skip a day, I get terrible headaches. They're basically unbearable. I also just get really sad. I need that kick that makes my heart beat super fast. Bad, I know. So yeah, I think it's possible.
When you cannot function without it, then you may be addicted to it. Having said that, I think that you can be addicted to caffeine. It is somewhat like an energy booster and gives you that high especially when you are sleepy and tired. Much like any other things, when you are addicted you search for it and become frustrated when you cannot have it. So if these things happen to you, you might be addicted.
Wow! You were drinking that much in high school? I couldn't handle coffee in high school, it wasn't until college and finals weeks that I finally hopped onto the coffee bandwagon. I don't need it every day thankfully, but if you're sticking to one or two cups a days, there's no problem there at all. If you need more than four cups to get you through a day, that's when I think there starts to be a problem.
Of course it is possible to be addicted to caffeine. You can be addicted to anything. And some side effects are fatigue, and becoming tired more easily, feeling like you just can't do anything without drinking your precious coffee, lower self esteem (duh) and yellow teeth. You should learn not to depend of caffeine or another energy enhancers. I never likes coffee and never drank it, and I feel just as energetic as I was when I was young.
It is possible to get addicted to caffeine cause addiction is not only about drugs. There are lots or various kinds of addiction. I think some side effect of too much caffeine is insomnia and nervousness.
