It's definitely one of the most dangerous and it's true that at one time it was the single most dangerous drug used recreationally in the world. However, times change, people try new things and it seems to me the most dangerous drug being used in the world today is probably Krokodil which many heroin users in Russia have been turning to as a cheaper alternative. Krokodil is notorious for causing necrosis and the average user lives for about two years.
Krokodil is disgusting. There's a Vice documentary about the usage of it in Russia. It's just disturbing.
Yep, it's very disturbing. If people think that what meth does to your face (and body) is bad, they need to take a look at the images of the necrosis caused by Krokodil. I believe there is already a thread about it on these forums where images have been posted of people with large gaping holes in their arms and legs from injecting it.
I saw that there were people who lost the ability to talk and comprehend things due to the drug. I'm telling you, it's the worst thing that I have ever seen.
Losing the ability to speak properly (or at all) and not being able to comprehend things seems to be a side effect/health consequence of many illegal substances. I've mostly seen people end up like this from sniffing glue and using solvents which obviously cause a lot of damage to the brain. But injecting a cheaper version of desomorphine which contains red sulfur scraped from match boxes and chemicals like paint thinner, that's just horrific! You can see images of the effects of Krokodil here.
I'm studying for a certificate as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and I've learned that alcohol is actually the most harmful drug. As a former heroin addict, this was quite surprising to hear. Alcohol addiction, however, is responsible for a huge number of car related deaths, health issues, and since alcohol is socially accepted, widespread. Alcohol withdrawal is also incredibly dangerous, and can result in death. All in all, I think that there are other (rarer, exotic ie: krokodil) drugs that can do immediate harm, but broadly, alcohol is extremely dangerous.
Yes, it is super dangerous! I can't understand how so many people survive it, and then they go on using it even after close to death experiences. It's even more dangerous when you are tying to stay clean from it, but you go back using it. A lot people have died from an overdose because of that. I'm so glad I'm so scared of needless!
This year alone I've had 3 friends overdose on heroin. Its really bad in my town. Its killed dozens of people from my old High School. It is the deadliest drug, in my opinion
In that case, you may be interested in this thread: http://talk.drugabuse.com/threads/the-10-hardest-drugs-to-kick.3059/#post-61376 It doesn't document the most deadly drugs but, rather, lists the drugs that are the most addictive/most difficult to quit. Alcohol is at number six, lodged in between cocaine and crystal meth.
I would say that it has been labelled this because it has such a high rate of being an addictive substance. There are so many dangers that come along with it too. I have seen people use heroin and I have seen people use meth. I would say that meth is a little more dangerous because it just rips away their personality.
I think that heroin has such a reputation for being "the" drug to stay away from at all costs because of how good it supposedly can make one feel. Someone really close to me was a heroin addict, it wasn't pretty, but they definitely seemed to "need" it to function, and when they had it, all was "well". Really sad to see actually.
Heroin is one of the most deadliest drugs in the world. But I think meth and many of it's variants are probably more dangerous. They kill faster and physical damage on the user's body is visible and incredibly rapid. All these drugs should be avoided at all costs, not even as a mere curiosity or experimentation.
Well I wouldn't say it is the most dangerous hard drug but it is very addictive and does a lot of damage. I think meth is a little bit deadlier because it can change your physical facial structure in no time and it is also very addictive.
It is one of the deadliest ones for sure, but from what I have heard there are drugs less known to the public but when used they can cause deaths easier than cocaine.
I didn't think of this one before but I am pretty sure that chloroform would be considered one of the most deadly substances. I know it can be used to cause a person to lose consciousness or to kill them within seconds. It doesn't really seem to be used recreationally in such a way but I have known people to experiment with it in such ways which, of course, is very extreme and very dangerous.
I don't know that it's the most dangerous, as all drugs are. But it's probably very likely that it is. It's easier to overdose on especially when you have built up a tolerance.
All drugs can be deadly. Heroin is definitely very deadly in the sense that it is easy to O.D. on, but if we're talking deadly in the sense of 'really bad to get addicted to' (which, again, is all drugs), heroin isn't at the top of the list. Heroin doesn't mess you up mentally as much as, say, a severe Xanax addiction will, and I think the mental side affects that addictions can have are the worst side affects.
Heroin is truly very deadly. It is highly addictive and it makes its users extremely hyper active. I've had a first hand experience of it with one of my paternal uncles. So anyone thinking of it should just stop and steer clear.
I am not familiar with the ins and outs of heroin use/abuse...but I have seen how it's affects have totally torn a person's life apart...like any other substance abuse problem. I would say Meth abuse may surpass those of heroin abusers...seems like it takes affect quicker and is way more deadly.
In a 2011 study done by a team of Scottish scientists, Heroin ranked the first in both social and personal harm indices, out of nineteen most commonly used recreational drugs (including alcohol and heroin). If you consider that being the 'deadliest', then yes, heroin is the worst recreational drug out there. Even more than cocaine (crack cocaine came third, while unsurprisingly, alcohol came second.)
