I hope this isn't a stupid question, but different people seem to have different opinions on this. It is about to become legal in my state both medical and recreational, so I really want to understand it. Is Marijuana An Upper Or A downer?
The effect marijuana has on the person using it varies from individual to individual. For some it can make them feel good while for others especially those who are suffering from depression or have anxiety disorders it could exacerbate their problem, make them feel more depressed.
The have been various studies done on different people and the effect is never the same. It also can have a different effect on the same person. It can be a upper and a downer, but in general it tends to make people a bit more lethargic.
Cannabis is interesting in that it exhibits qualities of both stimulants and depressants. The effects depend on the person, the environment, and the ratio of cannabinoids in the plant (THC-dominant strains are usually more stimulating than CBD-dominant strains).
Wow, it is so weird that this plant is both and upper and a downer, or the fact that it could be one and not the other. I guess it just goes to show how unique each one of us is. I really do not know much about strains, but I would hope that when they legalize it here in Ohio next years they indicate what the strain is at the stores they open.
There is another substance that has this property and that is tobacco. If you smokes cigarettes quickly it's stimulant but if you drag the smoke deep into your lungs then it's a sedative.
To me, marijuana is a downer. At least, it was for me. I have problems with depression and when I smoked it would bring me down. It would not make me more depressed but more relaxed and calmer. I was less inhibited when I smoked and I think my temper was more on an even keel.
As someone commented the experience varies a a lot from person from person, and if the weed contains more THC or CBD. I personally could never understand what the big fuss about it is, I could never really experience a high from ti or anything like that. NOTHING.
Marijuana will accentuate any mental illness that you might have. Recently they have only been focusing on the positive points of smoking marijuana and seem to have forgotten the negative side effects.
Personally it depends. Most of the times I get really happy after smoking and start to think about my future and how great it's going to be, but there's times where smoking can make me really confused and indecisive about things in my life.
Generally, marijuana is a downer and is usually used to chill out and relax, as it's a muscle relaxant. It does, however, affect dopamine and serotonin production in the brain which may exacerbate symptoms of anxiety or paranoia in some people. There are two main psychoactive ingredients in marijuana, THC and CBD. THC gives more of a mental high but causes paranoia whereas CBD counteracts that effect, gives more of a body buzz and has medical benefits.
It will accentuate any mental illness that you might have? That's a bold claim. Do you have any sources to back that up?
They have been developing marijuana strains specifically for medical usage, these stains contain high levels of CBD and just trace amounts of THC. These new marijuana strains will definitely change the way medical marijuana will be used.
Indeed, CBD has some amazing medical benefits and it's also known to relieve pain. THC, on the other hand, also has medical benefits, such as being capable of killing cancer cells. It seems that both THC and CBD can be beneficial, although they seem to be concentrating mainly on CBD.
This is so true. When I want to relax, I would take long drags, but when I needed a lift, I would hit them pretty quickly. I recently went to vaping, which is more of a steady feeling rather than anything else.
I think this really depends on what strain you get. I've had a what I've called "productive marijuana" and "lazy marijuana" before. It either picks me up or slows me down, but I'm still able to focus. My lazy strains would help with my sitting crafts like jewelry making, gardening, or knitting, while the productive strains would lift my spirits and give me the energy to clean my entire house top to bottom. Definitely depends on what you have.
Of all the people I know that use to smoke it, they say it was always a downer. I've never seen anyone that felt like they got a boost of energy from it. I can see how it can stabilize someone that is depressed all the time. But never a normal person.
I remember learning in a college health class that it is a hallucinogen. Most people do not hallucinate on it because the amount needed to do so is high (no pun intended). There are the different strands of course, indica, stavia, and hybrid. Indica acts as more of a downer in its properties, and stavia I suppose as the upper but I don't think that is the correct way to describe it. It definitely does not act like a stimulant but does lift your mood.
The more I read, the more conflicted I become. Sometimes just reading about how complex is enough to make me down truth be told.
From my experience it can be an upper initially, then after an hour or two when the effect wears off then it can be a downer. I remember crying and feeling sad over nothing after taking weed!
