It is a mental health crisis and not a disease

  1. The answer to the suffering is in treating the mental health.
It is so important that people get my message because there is hope if you or your loved one is struggling. I work as a Doctoral Health Psychologist within the drug and alcohol community and it is a traumatised population that I am treating. People are suffering psychologically because of their own personal traumas and these traumas need specialist help. Without this specialist help no matter how good the social support or service being accessed there will remain a difficulty keeps you or your loved one from repeating the same self-defeating behaviours. The difficulty of alcohol and substance dependency is complex and it requires a complex approach and complex psychological support but it is absolutely treatable. I want people to know that there is hope but it takes a concerted effort but with someone who fully understands mental health and drug and alcohol difficulties hope can be realised. Best wishes gavpsycpoljones.

@Gavpsycholjones thank you for your input...and your service to humanity. i agree with your input. it does require a complex approach.... on various levels.

treating the tip of the iceberg, while not touching what's underneath.... well, that doesn't really accomplish much or heal people. we are open to your input on how the average person with limited income or insurance can get the kind of care you are talking about.

If we are keeping "IT REAL"doc let's speak the trutho_O.Its a 2 part reality.Part one"Geanology"Part two "Mental health" these two combined supply you with enough information to label it a disease, mental health you can treat, genetics you cannot!!!!Unless you know something I don't?I do realize the first part of my reply comes acrossed as if I'm an assshole but so I am completely clear...i appreciate you doc you are thinking outside the box and you're onto something.Expand you're thinking....don't be an isolationist, there is no one cause to anything you could ever fathom, there are always multiple factors at play and to treat anything successfully you have to be able too see more than just your own beliefs........Reality is a bitchh:)

I totally agree with you that mental health treatment is key to overcoming substance dependency and other self-defeating behaviors.

It's great to hear from someone in the field who is passionate about helping people who have gone through trauma. I think it's important for people to understand what it means to be psychotic and how to help someone in a psychotic episode. It can be a terrifying and confusing experience for both the person experiencing it and those around them. But with the proper knowledge and resources, it is possible to provide adequate support and care. Keep spreading the message of hope and the importance of seeking specialized help for mental health issues and addiction. Your work as a doctoral health psychologist makes a real difference in people's lives.
