I'd like to start a humour thread, since humour has helped me in every single way possible. from overcoming cravings to securing business deals (not to mention my partner), its always been a powerful tool. So post here anything you find funny
I agree! I love using humor in dark times to lighten myself up or keep my mind from wandering into the places I don't want it to go. I use Reddit and YouTube quite a bit to get my giggles out.
Thank you for posting that picture, it's quite funny. I also self-deprecate myself in a humorous way, and it really makes me laugh, rather than dwell on the negative side which will bring nothing but sadness and will ruin my usually happy mood. Humor rocks! No wonder they say that laughter is the best medicine. Anyway, I usually go to 9gag.com to check out funny pictures.
This one kind of reminds me of the days I was deep in my addiction. Was so bad that I'd have the marijuana and none of the other paraphernalia required to actually make a joint I was so poor!
@DK01, I know exactly what you mean! Having a fat bag of buds but no money for cigarettes or papers to actually do anything with it! It feels good to be free doesn't it!
Yeah, truth said there, but you can't laugh all your life, can't you? And it won't for a bigger distance help you to deal with your problems.
This quote is humorous but inspirational at the same time. Anyone who's having a hard time right now should take comfort in the fact that hardships are necessary in order to come up with the right outcomes. If it's all too easy, what's the point in being here in the first place?
Thanks for starting this thread. I find that laughter doesn't just make me feel great and closer to my friends and family, to other humans in general, but it also gives me new energy, hope, and new inspiration when I feel down or a little lost. And, interesting enough, it takes away my aches and pain as well.
Laughter is great medicine; I agree. Unfortunately, there are times in life when you can't muster a laugh no matter how funny something might normally be to you. I've been there, and people trying to make me laugh didn't help. It really depends on the situation, I think, but when laughter can be applied, yes please!
I have nothing to share right now but I will be checking back as the ones here are making me laugh. A long time ago one of my doctors told me if I did not laugh so much I'd be suffering from depression or committed to an institution. Was he serious?
I have to adamantly disagree with that one. I think you might need funnier people in your life. I've been in the darkest days of my life & a good joke made me laugh despite myself. Or a story. Or a video. Everything inside you doesn't want to laugh but you end up doing so as a release. So aggressively it might even turn into one of those crying fits. So, I never say laughter cannot be applied. I'm always taking applications.
Joan I know what you mean. I have likewise been in some dark holes and then something tickles me deep in my soul and you can hear me from a mile away. Interestingly I am known in my circles for my rather distinct laugh. The "funny" thing about me is that I can from hysterical laughter to deep sorrow/agitation in a flash. It's frightening: so much so that when people are telling me I never stop laughing, I have to honestly tell me, keep me in that mood since the other side is not something I want to expose them to. Give me laughter any day though. It's the place I prefer to be.
It's a release. That's the simple explanation. It's like a long sigh with different audio. Whether you're crying or laughing you're exhausting the same air & it makes you feel better either way. Now if you end up wallowing in the sadness you've wasted what crying should have been: an exhaustion.
I love laughing--it's one of the only true few things that never fails me. My sense of humor is really weird so what makes me laugh probably won't make anyone else laugh in their entire life, but what tends to get me going are really dark things or anti jokes. How do you make a plumber cry? You kill his whole family.
Oh really Ryan? You've got my attention. I am missing my laughter today and my blood pressure is somewhat high. My mom and my dogs got some smiles but I need my laughs. It's going to put me back where I want to be. It's funny how a good laugh can so positively affect your health. I am reading your plumber joke again and I am getting a little chuckle.
I don't get the plumber joke. Explain. Explain. *Oh geez I sound like one of those Dr. Who aliens that go 'exterminate!'*
Laughter is definitely and undoubtedly the best the medicine and, as someone mentioned above, also cheaper! Laughter helps release endorphins into the body which is what a lot of drugs, like Heroin for example, do anyway. On that subject, your body also releases endorphins after a good exercise or work-out - believe it or not, some people get addicted to exercising because of that! Anyway, if you've got an Android smartphone or tablet PC then iFunny is a handy little app to have for laughs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.ifunny
Laughter is real medicine. Laughing brightens up our faces, lightens up the mood and temporarily makes us forget about our problems. I have noticed people who laugh alot are more relaxed, confident and are more at ease facing their problems. Keeping dull faces only dampens the mood and it has been proven that people who are happier tend to live longer.
