Was there anyone here who has had an experience with lean?

What is lean exactly? I have heard of it in the past but a couple of my buddies were playing around saying I was on it even though I don't think I was. I think they are kidding around.

Most likely they were kidding around. It’s another word for purple drank/sizzurp.

I’ve never tried it, and I don’t personally know anyone who has, at least not in front of me. The closest anyone ever came was mixing OTC stuff with Sprite and I think a little bit of booze. But there’s a friend of a friend whom I suspect may have overdosed on sizzurp and died. It’s dangerous stuff.

Ah alright. I was drinking some grape juice mix in a bottle so that was mainly why they were kidding around and such.

It's basically cough syrup, soda, alcohol, and other things that are dangerous.

Oh wow, now people are making cocktails with over the counter medications? I must be getting old because I have never heard of this before:)

It was a girl, and something her father said about how she died indicated that it may have been because of this. I can’t remember specifically what it was. And it took me a little while to put two and two together, I think I was reading about sizzurp for other reasons and it clicked.

"The codeine, which is an opiate, produces a feeling of euphoria. The cough syrup also contains a drug called promethazine, which acts as a sedative. The combo can make users lean over – thus the nickname "lean."

That's the first thing I found when I Googled " what is lean in the drug world"....I also saw the "sizzurp' word someone mentioned. To me it was all foreign until now.

I am very sorry for your loss. Were you close to her?

Yep, and it has actually been happening for awhile. It has recently gained a lot of popularity in the hip-hop culture. A lot of people drink it.

It's good to educate yourself on it. If you have ever listened to much hip hop in your life, you may have heard the terms lean, sizzurp, purple drank, etc.

I have a young son who has me listening to most of everything. The problem is most of the times I don't understand much of what they are singing/saying.I usually need an interpreter.Sometimes I regret asking the young ones to translate for me. Often I am shocked to learn what I have been bopping to. I'll be sure to ask him if he knows about lean and knowing him he'll probably remark it's something I should be working towards: getting lean.

I only knew her through a mutual friend, so we didn’t know each other all that well. But it was still quite a shock to hear that she died and to see her name in the obituaries. I don’t know if any of our other friends kind of started feeling their mortality when it happened, but I know I did.

Ah. Well, if all else fails, you could go online and look up the lyrics to the songs. I wouldn't ask the kids because they might tell you something that is not true so they can continue to listen to the song haha.

Regardless, I am sorry. Lean is more addicting than a normal combination of alcohol, so it can lead you on a fast track to death. Life is short.
