I have seen so many people buying these lately that the stores run out of them frequently, and I see people everywhere drinking these even more than soda and other caffeinated drinks which we know are addictive.

I asked one person why they were angry when the shelf was empty, and they said to me that they could not function without one! I asked them if they meant it was like coffee, and they said oh no, it's more serious than that. They literally can't function and get sleepy if they don't have one. Is this something going on in society everywhere, or just my home town?

I believe that it is going on everywhere not just in your hometown. There seems to be a lot of young people who function on energy drinks. They even mix them with alcohol which is insane. People buy cases of this stuff and they can't go without it. It is really sad. I have never even tried and really have no interest in it. I have plenty of energy to get me through the day without this added substance. It makes you wonder what the long term effects of this will be as these people get older.

I think that it is important to be aware of the energy drinks as the body can have addiction to it and also you can increase weight as well and it is something which you need to be aware of how the drink will affect the body, and think that people don't realize what it can do to the body and mind as well. It is interesting to see what energy drinks come out each day and also think that people need to be careful when taking drinks which have energy and also need to think about the cost, as some of these drinks can be expensive and also I usually have these drinks few times a month which can be alright. I think that people need to be careful if mixing drinks like soft drinks or alcohol ones which can make the person be addicted to the mixed drink and also hope that people think about the consequences which can make the mind moody at times.

My fiance used to be addicted to red bull. When I met him I asked why he drank that, he said he drank them because he liked the flavor, yikes. I'm very glad that since we meet he has stopped drinking that crap... he used to keep bottles of coke in his room too... so gross. He has stopped drinking that junk for good, I think.

Back when I was still in college, I had a lot of sleepless nights because of school projects here and there and classroom exams every now and then. My classmates and I would take Lipovitan or Red Bull early in the morning while we are reviewing for our daily exams because our minds are just dozing off from not being able to sleep the night before. We needed something to booze us up so we could make it through school throughout the day. It has always been my habit to drink energy drinks to wake me up through the day whenever I lack sleep at night. I only stopped taking them when my tummy began to feel sensitive from acids.

Oh, come on, keeping bottles of coke is not gross. Let's not be those kind of people that ban everything in the name of health.

The existence of different energy drinks in the market industry does not fascinate me even before when I was still in College and when I am reviewing for the board examination. Before I always had sleepless nights and I am feeling tired and not energized but it never came into my mind to rely on this energy drinks just to give me energy. I had a relative who is a chemist who is always reminding us that we should avoid drinking this kind of energy drinks because it had a formulation that had a negative effect on our health.

I have tried them time and time again and I never really even get much of an energy boost from them. Overrated in my mind.

I used to be addicted to energy drinks. I couldn't go a day without red Bull. My body could not function without it. So everyday I had at least one drink. It took sometime before I realized I was really addicted. My doctor is the one who brought it to my attention.

It is gross to me. He didn't even enjoy drinking that warm crap! The thought of drinking warm coca cola kept at room temp for only god knows how long grosses me out. And no, I'm not against sodas... I don't drink cola, but I occasionally enjoy a glass of Pepsi with some ice.

I could also observe that more people here are buying these energy drinks. I do believe that being addicted to it is really possible just like in coffee. It could start as a state of the mind but later their body will be get used to the substance and will find it hard to get rid of their system.

I was curious about these so one day I spent some time reading about them.
One of those big monster ones has about the same caffeine as a large coffee.
So caffeine wise they are not that bad.
It's the bloody sugar in them! So much sugar we are talking 2-3 cans of pop worth of sugar.
One mom was up in arms when she found her teenage son drank them. Caffeine is bad for teens we all know that but some still like coffee and tea. She was mad because she was reading the ingredients and said "look at all these chemicals! I don't know what half this stuff is." I was glad I was there.
We sat down together and looked up every single ingredient in the energy drink to see what it was.
75% of them were actually just the chemical names for different vitamins. No issue there. The others were common food ingredients you would find in normal sodas. There were two ingredients. Guarana and taurine that we were a little worried about. Guarana is a natural source of caffeine, so that would bump the caffeine level up some more. Taurine was relatively untested, some sources say it's bad others say harmless.
I don't drink them and I don't advise people start. BUT they are not as terrible as some make them out to be.

Once in a while I drink energy drinks, but I am not addicted to these drinks. However,I see many people drinking energy drinks every now and then. Addiction of any kind is bad.

I've known people become psychologically addicted to energy drinks, thinking that they can't make it through the day without their fix of sugary, chemically enhanced energy. They're storing up a lot of problems for themselves down the line though: tooth decay, diabetes, possibly even heart troubles with the excess caffeine intake. Not a good thing at all.....

Energy drinks are caffeine-loaded, as you already mentioned, so it's not unusual for people - especially those who need instant energy to get the job done - to get addicted to them. They're legally sold everywhere and people take them at their own peril. I for one couldn't stand drinking a single bottle. Sting and Red Bull, for instance, are a no-no for me because they have extremely high caffeine content (more than tea or coffee). I'd like to get the rest of my energy from natural sources.

Good topic.I suffer from a disorder formally known as"Suicide headaches" Later and currently known as cluster headaches most common in female's but my luck never fails or actually often does lol, anyway when first diagnosed it was Oxycontin to the rescue(sarcasm) but later while in vegas during summer one year i got one of these headaches and the pain was so intense i blackout sober walking down a flight of stairs and shattered my arm and busted open my head ouch right,i didn't feel either as the pain in my head was that extreme a friend i was with and actually met from a forum for these headaches,a great friendship my other drug use destroyed anyways he brought me an ice cold red bull and said pound it trust me.First red bull ever and wow 50% of the pain left in 7-10 min.Year's later they found out oxygen was the fix in concentrad doses.Later on we both started by pounding a red bull before putting on the oxygen mask 15 min later headache was gone and they sometimes would last 36+ hour's straight and in the beginning people were actually committing suicide to stop the pain, ive caugh my friend hanging from a rope by his neck in his closet once just before it was to late. Now no study has proved this but i suspect the red bull boost your heart rate which in turn moves oxygen through your blood stream faster and i believe that is why it worked so quickly, but of course that is pure speculation.Anyways in general i agree with most avoid them unless they actually serve some medical purpose and again speculation but it has helped me several time's even without oxygen though it only relieves about50% on it's own which is alot considering that cluster headaches are now labeled "The most painful condition known to mankind"surpassing child birth

Energy drinks can really mess with your body. This article explains a lot.

What Your Energy Drink Can Do to Your Body

I have never ingested one of these beverages and never will. Just too much crap in there I don't think is good for you. Just my 2 cents, though.
