@deanokat i generally agree with you on this topic and like the psychedelic post this relates to relief for that same disorder so at the time they supplied some relief to intense pain, however to simply "get energy"no not for me either for that reason

I used to love the taste of Monsters and Redbull so in high school I would go and get one every morning before class. We had a week off from school at one point and I was bedridden for the whole thing. I didn’t know what the hell was going on with me, but I had a horrible migraine that made me ridiculously nauseous. After the week “vacation” was over, I went back to school and did my usual routine of getting an energy drink and POOF that week long headache was gone in minutes! And that was when I realized I was super sensitive to caffeine withdrawal. Still to this day I can’t even have a cup of coffee without a killer migraine the next day, but I never liked the taste of coffee and caffeine never seemed to have any waking-up effects for me, so that was easy.

You have A.D.H.D. uppers don't wake us up,that's how amphetamine became the"MIRACLE CURE"for it.Ritalin-Adderall-Concert,etc all UPPERS the effect is since our mind's are spinning so fast we can't process everything they decided to give us legal " METH" to supply the focus to process all those thoughts however after 12 years being treated this way myself and as i got older the thought process changed with the medication to"EVERYONE" would be better off if i were dead and the Ritalin then started fueling my depression which eventually lead me to turn to other drug's and alcohol and well you know how that turned out for me.Now i would rather run then medicate and i've spent most of my life searching for an escape from A.D.H.D.and intense, exhausting exercise has been a life saver and a life changer

Glad that exercise has been a savior for you, @True concern! A "magic pill" isn't always the answer, is it?!

Yes, for sure they are. I am a Monster Ultra Zero (in the white can) addict and have been for as long as I can remember. Compared to my past addictions, I consider this a tolerable addiction, and have no plans to stop drinking my monsters.

@HopeFloats45... Energy drinks aren't the greatest things in the world, but I guess you could look at them as the lesser of many evils.

Thanks for sharing that link, @Lostboy8731. That's a good article with good information. This paragraph was particularly scary:

Caffeine has powerful effects on many of our vital organs – particularly the cardiac and nervous systems. After drinking an energy drink, heart rate increases, blood vessels stiffen and your blood may become thicker; all changes that can precipitate a heart attack or stroke in those who are at risk. A recent study suggests that the other ingredients, such as taurine, may significantly increase heart rate and blood pressure, as well as risk for heart rhythm problems independent of caffeine content. These drinks can also cause periods of anxiety, changes in sleep patterns and mood swings – particularly in children and adolescents. Energy drinks have also been associated with serious complications including seizures, stoke and sudden cardiac death.

@deanokat I know these side affects of energy drinks all to well. Partially why I chose to post this particular article. About a year ago not even realizing after being clean for over a year I had established a severe addiction to energy drinks. Bad enough to the point that I was drinking 4 flats a week. So at 24 cans a flat that was just under 100 cans a week and didn't even realize I had a problem. I'd drink them 24/7. No water or coffee or juice just energy drinks and I saw nothing wrong with it. I even got out of my best friend's car as she drove me to work the one day and she said something about it. Clear as day I remember saying" ahh I'll be fine" famous last words. Cause next thing I new it felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest and like my brain was being fried at the same time. And then I woke up in the hospital with my friend at my side as when I finally got my bearings she told me the doc said I had suffered a minor stroke hense the emense pain and then shortly after just as I thought I was ok and went to stand up the heart attack hit. I thought she was screwing with me and it wasn't that serious till I seen that someone had sent her the video footage from the security cams ct work and I seen it. And watching yourself go through something like that well well lets just say I understood why she was so panicked and serious when I woke up. Needless to say haven't drank one since.

That's very scary, @Lostboy8731. I really believe that energy drinks are evil. So happy you're not drinking that sh*t anymore!
