Music helps too sometimes but I mostly tend to watch a movie or a show whenever I feel sad or upset. What does the trick for me are the characters. Some characters are very inspiring and make me feel happy when I see them. I love comedies and action movies the most!
I think your choice in this is entirely dependent on how you feel your mood and the time you have avalible. Both the mediums can honestly make you feel amazing things. They can change your mood and put you through a whole rollercoaster of emotion. They can change your mood completely.
Music seems fine for me because as they say "music is the soul of the mind". Music brings stability on my mind so i prefer it than movies who is having moving pictures and it just makes my head worse
It is right that both can be used to get rid or reduce depression as well as stress. Personally I am more into music and I really find listening to it relaxing especially those inspirational songs. Singing can also be a good way to express emotions and can help you feel better.
@Winterybella Well, yeah temporary is always better than nothing, but like I said temporary is only temporary, it's better to fix your life permanently. If that's even possible, lol.
Personally, when I was struggling with depression, I found music allowed me to escape everything. Just sitting in the car, lost in a song allowed me to not think about any of my problems or issues. It was amazing and another reason for me to love music.
Music is definitely more therapeutic to me personally. I find that it takes my mind off a lot of the issues and thoughts I'm having. It kind of takes me to another place. Allows me to relax and unwind. I love movies as well for different reasons.
I gravitate towards movies. When I get down I put on a comedy or watch some stand up comedy special. That usually takes me away from depression and sadness. I usually get a good laugh.
When I am down, I tend to reach for a book that teaches me something new. Recently, when I needed some time to heal from a large crisis in my life, I acquired a book about enamel art. It got me so inspired that now I am thinking of converting my garage into an art studio where I can experiment with glass and metal.
Either one is good. Can change your mood. Take you to a different place. They are both great distractions.
While I do also enjoy both music and movies, I think the one that's helped me the most is music over the years. When I've put my headphones in I've used that as my sanctuary to get away from everyone and that's how ice coped with a lot of stresses in my life.
Music is my thing over movies. I've always loved the motivation that music gives me. Not to say that I don't love movies too, but I guess I just draw more inspiration and a better connection from music.
I'm a music guy. I've loved music since I was a kid. I love music because I can listen to it no matter what I'm doing. With movies, I always feel like I have to block out a couple of hours of time to just sit in front of a screen, and I have trouble doing that.
If you are feeling low, you may not even have a mood to watch a feel good movie or good music. However, music is better that movies because a song is around 5 minutes but for a movie you need to find at least 90 minutes.
I turn to music mostly when I want to relax or when I need a distraction, but if I have a lot of free time that day I will certainly go for a movie marathon. It's more entertaining.
I would choose music although I love movies as well. But in times of depression and sadness, I usually turn to music just because it helps me recover better. I can listen to music all day and not get tired of it. Most especially, I love old school songs just because they bring me back to a simpler time. And I think that nostalgia helps me become better in no time, when I remember the times when I'm happy just because of a simple song. But I cannot discount the importance of movies as well in my life. Movies are certainly great distractors especially when I'm feeling sad and confused. But that's about it, they just distract me. Although they do have great lessons in them, most of the time, the stories of the movies aren't at all related to my life.
I generally watch something engaging. But, there are times when music brings out the most emotional side of me. Its something that a movie simply cannot do IMO. Because, music is so in-tune with your senses, and a few lines of the lyrics could really sum up how you're feeling or how you should feel.
As others have said, if your feeling low, then sometimes it takes too much concentration to even watch a movie, and that's another reason why I think music makes a bigger difference. People will obviously use whatever method is best for them, and I've known people that don't like either.
I'm not a movie fan at all. This is a very clear answer to me, music. I just feel like I relate to music much more than movies. The lyrics obviously have to be real, and none of the fake lyrics talking about crazy money, mansions, etc. It's easier to just self connect with music over movies.
I look to both music and movies to get me going again when I am having a hard time, it really just depends on what I am in the mood for at the specific time. I can get lost in movies, and music makes me think of happy times in my life.
