Has anyone else seen this show? It isn't about your typical addictions. The entire idea behind the show is to focus on addictions most people have never heard of. I've seen addictions to eatig scotch tape, drinking urine, drinking gasoline, eating little pieces of toilet paper, and more. It may be worth checking out if you would like to understand this sort of behavior just a little more.
This is strange. I've heard about people who have eating disorders but not to this extent. I'll have to check out this show but not before or well after I have eaten. There's all kinds odd addictions. But the kind you describes really have to do with a mental disorder.
I have not seen the show, but I have heard and seen people with very strange addictions. I have seen someone who was addicted to eating the soil. She will gather soil in a plastic papers as if it was food, and will eat it as if she was eating food. I have seen people who are addicted to food, sex, fighting and many more. It is really strange what many people find themselves in. Anyway, thank God that they are not obliged to remain in this addictions. Wen they determine that they have to quit, nothing can stop them. My fears has always been that I might get addicted to the internet. I browse for too many hours each day. All the same, everything is under control. I spend most of the time on the internet working.
http://www.hulu.com/search?q=My Strange Addiction Netflix doesn't have it, but Hulu does. Here's a link if you want to check it out! In my opinion, its worth watching.
I have watched this show plenty of times in the past. I saw a lady addicted to sniffing baby powder. One woman addicted to moth balls, another to eating nail polish. One man addicted to having sex with his car. One man addicted to eating plastic bags. One lady was addicted to eating cat treats.
Oh dear, I don't know what to think about the show if I'm quite honest. Many things they show there are more freaky kinks instead of addictions. I feel like the shows only purpose is to ridicule these people and make them seem weird, instead of talking about actual addictions. Sure, I've seen some actual addictions on there but some episodes are just about....people qho want to have sex wuth their cars or stuff like that, I just don't think its necessary making a show about things like that, just to show some peoples "irrational" behaviours
These things that those people are doing are strange to think that they are a different kind of human behavior. But sad to say I feel sorry the way how their actions are affecting themselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
I am not even aware of that show and sounds like we can discover really strange things on such show. I have watched something before about a person who eats hair and paper. These kind of addictions can really affect their health.
One episode featured a woman addicted to eating the remains of his dead husband. She carries his urn everywhere she goes and even cooks for him! She does not eat what she cooks, she just cooks what he likes. It really is a strange addiction. I guess she was so distraught with her husband's death that is why she eats his ashes. I hope she got better though because at the end of the episode they featured her going to therapy.
Oh, dear lord! I haven't seen that one. I hope she got better, too. So many of these people still haven't realized they even have a problem. And you know how successful rehab and therapy can be when the addict doesn't believe they're an addict.
I'm sure a lot of them don't really count as addictions. But the way I see it is if the people get help for something that threatens their health, they can call it whatever they want. Except for the guy who loves his car too much. That is just silly.
Okay, number one, half the "addictions" aren't really addictions. They're just weird beliefs (the woman who thinks drinking pee is good for you) or a mental fixation (the woman who digs in her ears a lot). It seemed like the girl who drank laundry detergent just wanted attention, since she stopped immediately with no problem. It's kind of like "Hoarders" in that let's exploit mentally ill people for ratings sort of way.
I have no seen the show. However, I believe that it is possible for a person to get addicted to just about anything or any behavior that they have an inclination to. There are a lot of strange addictions, like Pica where a person eats their hair. I know of people to have created bald spots from this behavior.
I can see what you're saying. But, number 1, have you looked at all the questions in "other substances"? There are a lot of questions about things I would never consider an addiction. But who am I to decide what someone else is going through? I'm entitled to my opinion, as is everyone else. But I don't feel like I'm entitled to make a judgement about someone else's issues. By definition, addiction is a mental illness. The mentally ill who are being "exploited" know what is happening. They aren't forced or tricked into anything. I have a personality disorder that is a mental illness by definition. And I can still make those sort of decisions all on my own! Implying people with a mental illness aren't smart enough to make these decisions on their own is actually kind of offensive.
I have seen this show and it is shocking to see what people are capable of and also kind of disturbing as sometimes it can be depressing, or loneliness which can make them take up this addiction to pass the time. It is surprising to see what the human body can take in as some of the things the people ate would actually be hard to take in, for most people and also the insides would suffer. I think that people should try and get the help they need before they get into this sort of habit otherwise it can be very easy to do something which is harmful to the body.
Whether these things are addictions or not, these people shouldn't be exploited this way. What some of these people need is help. I remember the lady eating nail polish and it was believed that because of the nail polish she had a miscarriage. If these people could stop at any time, is it an addiction? And if so why didn't they stop their harmful acts?
Addictions can be crazy! I saw this woman who was addicted to eating soil. You should have seen her consume huge chunks of it seemingly enjoying every mouthful. Some thought she had some kind of mineral deficiency but nothing would stop her!
Yeah that is really problematic. The first step is accepting that you have an addiction. Then it will be easier to remedy it if you are willing to change. Though I think most people in the episodes in this show have some deeper problem. Probably a mental illness that contributed to their addiction problem.
I would bet on it! Even if its something that seems really small. It probably doesn't take more than a tiny mental issue to get caught up in something like that.
I've watched this show as well. It's interesting to see the different addictions people can develop and how they get treatment. The most memorable for me was a woman who ate pottery. I can't imagine doing that, the stomach pain it must have caused her. I remember the drinking gasoline one as well. I'm not sure how they survived with drinking something so toxic. The show makes me happy I have a more 'typical' addiction.
