My thoughts on weed

Now, I might sound hypocritical in my thinking but here goes... While I hate drugs and the addictions that come along with them I am totally okay with marijuana. I don't personally smoke weed so maybe I am not the best person to have an opinion on the subject but I just feel like it is a natural source and when used responsibly it doesn't seem to be harmful. I feel like if you live in a state where it is legal and you are an adult that can afford it as well as use it properly then why not?

Now here comes my hipocrisy...I despise cigarettes and cannot understand why people smoke...but yet I'm okay with people who choose to smoke weed "responsibly".

Weird, I know...but just some of my thoughts.

Well, first off, second-hand cigarette smoke is far more carcinogenic than second hand vapour from a bong or whatever so you are quite justified in detesting smoking.

Secondly, of all the psychoactive substances (including alcohol) that a person could become addicted to or otherwise abuse, marijuana is surely one of the least harmful.

So I don't think you are being hypocritical at all - in fact, you seem to have a very sensible, well thought out viewpoint.

I think I understand your emotions behind this since cigarettes technically don't give much of a therapeutic effect while being way deadlier, so I could see why you would despise it over weed. I think they are almost completely incomparable anyway, personally. I also agree with you that if you are a functioning adult then it should not matter what you do in your private life.

@Charli and I have the same perspective. Cigarettes and weed are pretty different things and comparing them is pretty futile so detesting cigarettes and being totally fine with weed is not really hypocritical. The main similarity I guess is that you can smoke them and they are derived from plants. The similarities stop there as their effects differ. Their effects on me differ anyway.

The mentality that individuals have about marijuana is an old and outdated concept. That generation is starting to die off in the younger generation are starting to voice their opinions. That's exactly why marijuana is being legalized simply because those who would've voted against it no longer are here with this in the same numbers they were before..

It's your personal preference and opinion. I don't like either one of them and it's becoming legal not because of it's health benefits. It being legalized because of the tax revenue that it generates for the state. It has nothing to do with health and safety.

I think a lot of people probably think the same. While drug abuse continues to be a big issue, marijuana is becoming more and more accepted I think.

I'm not saying it's harmless obviously, it's just a lot less harmful than a lot of other drugs.

And I am totally for the tax revenue as well. I feel like we should take the power out of the dealers hands. I feel like less money needs to be spent on the war against weed and be focused on the hard drugs that are killing today's youth.

So I totally see your point. There are similarities but it stops there. I guess the thought of people smoking either one is where my mind links them together.

I don't like tobacco -- it smells awful; leaves yellowish stains on fingers, beards, teeth; causes cancer in smokers and second-hand smokers. It's just horrible, though if people went back to-- what did they do before, chew it? Sniff it? Then I'd have less of a problem with it.

Weed, on the other side, does not smell as bad, I find, and I did not see anyone have stains from it. There is some tar in smoking it, but also many benefices. If the consume of it is responsible, I have no idea why I should object. This is not hypocrisy; just two evaluations based on two different products.

I have smoked weed and personally, I don't see any harm with it. It's when people buy the wrong weed that becomes dangerous. It's when other sources manipulate it. Be careful.

Yes, your thoughts between cigarette and weed are quit contradicting.
I personally do not like cigarette and weed and I both never tried it. Maybe if you grow up in a society where weed is illegal and seen to be as a dangerous illegal drug, you will have a really bad thought about it.

I am right here with you on this one Zaerine. It's illegal where I live and I have seen it's affects so I am not for it. The health benefits conversation I am still trying to understand. Right now it's not getting my vote. How determines responsible use and what really is the "wrong weed". I am always looking for answers.

TripleD123, I understand that conflict you are dealing with though.

I just am more accepting of weed because in most cases it is natural and from one source. The plant. Whereas tobacco is filled with chemicals and so many other things.

Aah, people do tend to have this "natural is better" mentality. Eh. If it's less harmful, it's less harmful, natural or not! But to each their reasons, I'm not arguing here.

Yeah they call that brainwashing. You've fallen for the mass brainwashing. We've all been conditioned to think weed is cool, it's good, it's natural. They did something like this with cigarettes when they first came out. Don't fall for it. It has a whole batch of its own surprises. Doctors are even promoting just like they did with cigarettes. REMEMBER, history repeats itself.

I'm hearing more and more people everyday using the word "responsibly" along with weed, and they're right. everything need rules and so do getting high.

It easy to say use in small doses. But when it comes to practical application it doesn't work. There are many weed addicts who initially started smoking just a little [for the nerves], it became a habit, they developed tolerance and had to smoke more . . . and things only got worse from there. IMHO responsible use is a myth.

I am totally okay with weed as well, and I find it "fascinating" somehow. It seems like the lesser of all evils and it's even prescribed to people in some cases. I smoked weed once and, however, don't want to do it again. I find it perfectly fine as long as you don't have your mind on weed all day everyday.

It's not strange to look at marijuana as less of a drug then most other things. Marijuana has all kinds of health benefits and can even replace some prescription drugs. Most states have already legalized this, but I would never want them to legalize anything else tho. The most important thing is to look at the side effects, marijuana has very little side effects and the ones it does have are harmless. There are things that get over looked like pornography addiction which actually can ruin your mood and relationships.
