I know of people that got hooked on Meth and they had dropped massive amount of weight. I use to wonder about that a lot. Eventually I found out that when you take Meth you lose your appetite. You lose weight and your body doesn't get any nutrients. Your skin dries up, bad breath, loss of teeth. Several things can happen once you stop eating. My friends use to make jokes about going on a Meth diet to lose weight. But I didn't find it funny at all. People close to me had gone through the addiction. What are your thoughts on appetite loss and Meth?
Appetite loss is not a good thing, as you may eat less than the required amount which could upset your body and affect how it works as well in it's functions. Meth is not a good way as it may, do more weight loss than needed and a person could gain it back when not using it and also could bring it back but in a worse way and the person would regret it. Taking meth for weight problems is not good, as the person may be dealing with consequences which are bad and also can have more problems.
I guess loss of appetite is a way of putting it but, as I've seen it, it just seems to be a supplemental focus. As in you could care less about eating because it is a distraction from the high itself. Of course this isn't the case for everyone. I've seen meth addicts high off their faces stuff a pizza into it simultaneously. So, kind of seems to be case specific in that way.
Of all the meth addicts in Hawaii, the ones that I know, have gotten drastically skinny from it's usage. Bad hygiene starts to show eventually. Then their skin goes bad.
Right & I see what you're saying but let me elabourate on my point: If you're hungry but you have something that focuses your attention away from that hunger you tend to forget to eat. Now this doesn't mean your appetite is non existent it just means that something supersedes it.
Well a lot of hard drugs may make people lose their appetite. I guess when they are under the intense feel of high then eating is the last thing on their mind and they think that food is not needed. It could also be an individualistic thing because some people who use hard drugs still have a huge appetite.
I lost many a friend in high school due to meth. The main reason these girls picked up the drug was to lose weight. They not only lost weight but also lost teeth so I don't know if that was a fair trade. I think I'd rather be chubby and keep my teeth to be honest. But who needs teeth if they aren't hungry anyways right? Gosh, such a horrible horrible drug. I'm trying to be humorous and its still just so sad.
I have friends that use the drug meth. They frequently use it just for fun or to feel "the high" as they say. Meth addicts usually do lose weight due to the loss of appetite and lack of sleep. I couldn't fathom why they keep using it despite the fact that it ruins lives. Using it is like slowly killing yourself .Not to mention the crimes you can commit or people that you can hurt including your family.
In my experience it doesn't matter whether you eat or not - your body still doesn't get the nutrients it needs. Instead, it lives off the energy supplied by the Meth and is almost as though the Meth just burns the nutrients away before your body has time to absorb them. When I was on Meth I never lost my appetite - I ate more! A lot more! Yet I still lost a lot of weight and went very skinny. I think a lot of that is to do with dehydration rather than not enough nutrients - after all, the human body is between 60% to 80% water.
Reading about all the symptoms of meth use and withdrawal should be enough to stop anyone who want to experiment with it. Basically, you are shrinking. Everything is drying up inside and outside. I wonder what the organs of a meth user look like, and whether they start shriveling up as well. What a horrible ordeal to get hooked on this poison. And worse even, to get over it again.
I think appetite loss is no joking matter, nor is meth addiction. Even when someone is not on meth they might lose their appetite and this causes all kinds of problems with them physically and mentally. Imagine the times we have all been hungry and how we are unable to think clearly, or maybe we get angry pretty easy. Then, imagine building a life around this state of mind. How impossible is that. I am with you. I don't think that is very funny at all.
I always thought people could eat after doing meth. Now cocaine, that's a different story. One time years ago, I was coming down off coke, smoked some weed and thought I was hungry. I put a few peanuts in my mouth and had to spit them out, I couldn't even swallow I was SO not hungry. I have seen some methheads get really skinny though. So glad I never got into meth.
Drugs mess us up a lot. I recall one time I was taking a lot of pills and I was not eating for a couple of days. When someone offered me food I said like "food?", I had forgotten about eating.
I can totally relate to you - indirectly - . I've got a friend who hasn't eaten anything since 2 weeks ago, because he spends thousands of dollars for meth. I told him he'd soon face severe consequences if he didn't stop, but he just wouldn't listen to me, nor his close relatives. He dropped from 75 kg to 55 in just two weeks! I'm scared for his life, but I don't have any control over it. I can only hope he will realize that what he's doing is wrong.
Women are all so conscious about their weight. I don't know if this was a joke or if this girl was really serious. One person joking insisted that they go on meth to lose weight, and the weight conscious girl was actually going along with it, and asked if it was ok and will she get addicted to it. so there are really naive people that will fall for that gimmick alone.
I think that people joke about the wrong things sometimes. They do not think about the possibilities that someone may have went through a struggle like what you have and your loved ones. As far as appetite loss...that makes me want to dig deeper as to find more information about the scientific effects of it all.
