Have you ever been referred to a pain clinic? I was wondering what is the method they use to treat people. I knew of a patient who was referred to one from the office I worked in. The guy became addicted to pain medication. He did have a serious injury, but seem to need more and more of Vicodin until my doctor referred him to a pain clinic.

I have never personally been referred to a pain clinic though I have had visits to the dentist on the issue. Pain medications are addictive including Vicodin, Lyrica and Cymbalta which are used to treat fibromyalgia and chronic pain. There are alternative methods to address pain like massage, and other more specialised but simple techniques like the Marshall Protocol which are not based on these addictive drugs. Another intervention is to increase magnesium intake which alleviates chronic pain.
