Some people believe psychics or fortune tellers, and they go to them for guidance, myself included. But my frequency of getting readings as compared to others is quite low, and some people tend to consult one psychic after another to compare the readings. Some people don't even have the patience to wait for the prediction to come to pass and they again consult another psychic to ask the same question. So what is your 2 cents on psychic addiction? Do you suffer from it? What has been your experience so far?

I would say it's more of a codependecy issue rather than an addiction to getting psychic readings. The people who do that feel a need for constant guidance in their lives and by going to these psychics that is how they fulfill those needs. It can be devastating for this people since often puts them in such debt due to the expense.

I can understand people that have problems and need guidance, but when the question is along the lines of whether their ex or love interest will contact them etc, then that's just too trivial to ask again and again since it hasn't happened yet. So I think that's where the addiction starts.

I definitely don't suffer from this because I mostly find it silly.

I do have a relative who is completely addicted, though. She spends a small fortune on her favorite psychic who seems to predict everything under the sun for her. My biggest problem with it is that it seems to either be generic predictions that are bound to happen based on things she has learned about this relative OR they're more like projections than predictions. I think that if you're expecting something to happen a certain way, then you're more likely to effect it actually happening in that direction, even if you don't mean to.

I used to try palm reading before cause it seems have a basis but I stopped that before I got too serious about it. I knew some who believes a lot in psychic reading and I think it is not a good thing since it sometimes hinder them for thinking better of the things and just rely on those psychics.

A lot of times people want to know there future so bad they forget to make it for themselves. Like you said people get these so called readings and don't wait for them to pass. I personally don't believe in psychics readings, this is like putting your life in someones hands. The things you do through out the course of your life will determine it's outcome. Spiritual guidance and the belief in a creator (God) leads me to follow guidelines, that if followed leads to an expected end. If your always depending on a person to tell you what's going to happen for you day by day you we'll grow dependent on them like any other addiction.

@Jane, Maybe the psychic was always right, that's why she kept coming back. The trick is to never tell a psychic anything about your life, just let them read your mind. I don't know about your aunt, as for me I only go to psychics if I have a problem or if I have a decision to make.

@zaerine, You can just learn about palm reading online for free. That's what I do, since I am curious about all these patterns on my hand.

@Tsky45, I think of readings as a "cheat". For example, you have to decide about something. A psychic can tell you which is the better choice and which is the poor or unfavorable choice, since they can read minds and can see the future.

Eh, I do know someone who is highly addicted to psychics. This person spends most of her money on them, this person doesn't even earn enough money, but a big part of her hard earned money ends up being spent of psychic readings. It's a shame. This person really believes in the things those psychics say, she believes blindly in them and has to get several readings a week.

I remembered one time when I was in College I accompanied a best friend of mine to a fortune teller. I was hesitant to go with her at that time but she said she was afraid to go alone so I go with her. When we are there she wanted a palm reading and the other one I think it is called the tarot cards but I am not sure what they call it. Then after that when we go home already my friend was seriously thinking what the fortune teller had told her. That is the reason why I am against it because what they will say you will keep of thinking that it will really or might happen to you. I think no one knows about our future or destiny in life its only God. They are only human beings for us to believe in their predictions. For myself I always surrender my life to God and always ask Him that whatever His plans for my life I will accept and to Him I only owe and believe what will happen to my life.

@ReadmeByAmy, I'm not really thinking intently the prediction of psychics towards me and I just kept living my life and I just wait to see if it happens. Was the news that your friend received good news or bad news for her to be so preoccupied about it?

@serenity What if they can't see the future? Why would they need your money? If they could see the future they should be able to pick winning lottery tickets, or make a living at casinos. If they can get you to believe something your mind will make it happen. If you decide you will be a millionaire by the end of this year and believe it, it just might happen. ;-)

I went to a psychic once and it was more for a bit of fun rather than anything serious. Usually they seem to just speak in such general terms that the advice they give could be applied to anyone's life situation.

I do worry for people that seem addicted to it...I did know a lady whose parents passed away and she would go to a psychic every couple of weeks to try and 'connect' with her parents. I guess if it brought her some comfort it wasn't all bad, but I do worry that some of those people prey on vulnerable people going through tough life situations.

@Tsky45, I heard that the reason why psychics are bad with gambling predictions is because if the Lord allowed them to predict the winning numbers, then wouldn't it produce more greedy people in the world? Besides, the gift was given to help people, not to make oneself rich.

@kassie1234, I did encounter a couple of psychics who seem to be "money hungry", but you can easily spot them. They have the gift, but they encourage you to spend more by using all sorts of strategies based on what they read on you. Other psychics answer your extra questions with no additional cost!

Yeah, I have learned some about palm reading through the internet. The basics like what line is for money/fortune, life and career, just like that. :)

Sometimes people may rely on these sort of people and live they way they have predicted which can cause them to live in fear or spend money, which can be a lot and the person could be greedy at times which does occur at times. Most people may have heard the success stories and don't bother finding if it is true or not, in most cases which can leave the person sad or ruined in a financial sense. It can be people who have lost a loved one in death and may think they are getting real answers from the one who died, when it may not be true in some cases which can be heartbreaking.

@vegito12, If they're looking for messages from their loved ones, then it's quite simple to know which message is genuine and which isn't. The message can pertain to any aspect of their lives that the person is already aware of, like where is the will located, etc. If the message does not resonate, then the psychic is most likely a fraud.

I think psychics are generally BS, but some people may come to depend on the sense of validation they get from going to one. Most "readings" are so vague that a person who wants to believe will twist whatever the psychic said to make it fit their day. People also often like the sense of security they get from being told what to do or where to go next by the psychic.

It can be useful. It depends upon their source. If they receive from the light or the darkness. I know of one who was in the light, but sometimes practiced dark things. It has caught up with her. I think it is better to guide yourself. No outside sources, psychics, skip the friends advice too. It's your life why would you ever want someone else to influence you? I think it is good to keep an open mind and ponder different things. Essentially though the guidance should come from within.

@Adrianna, The dark side? I haven't encountered that kind of psychic yet, but what exactly happened to your friend? I think there's nothing wrong in seeking additional outside input, but at the end of the day, you will still make the decisions based on the pros and cons and the info that was given to you by the psychics.
