Hey! I have been a smoker for around 6 months now and I really want to quit. I usually have between 5 to 10 cigarettes each day, which is quite a lot. I do not want to use any nicotin patches or similar products but I have tried to go cold turkey a couple times before and it did not work at all. Does anyone have any suggestion?
You could try tapering off. Slowly reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke each day. Keep going until you are down to one a day. Once you get there, try to smoke once every two days. Keep going. Make it a week. And then stop smoking. Fight the cravings when they assail you and maybe after a month, the desire to smoke will have significantly diminished. All the best!
I would keep trying to quit cold turkey. It took me 3 or 4 times before I was successful. You haven't been smoking for that long, and 5-10 cigarettes a day really isn't that much. If you absolutely can't do it cold turkey, then try what @Rainman suggested. Good luck!
I've tried the tapering off method, and it has kind of worked for me. It's a great alternative because in my oppinion, I found quitting cold turkey really difficult for me to accomplish. But you need to see how your body reacts to it and see what's the best option, remember that every body works in a different and various way. Good luck!
You should look for Allan Carr's method on the internet, it really helped me to get over my addiction. Also, if you have been a smoker for only 6 months you'll get over it a lot easier than others, as your synapses aren't so damaged after only 6 months, probably you even have fewer triggers than most of the smokers because you have had enough time to develop them all. Quit while it's still easier.
