Prayer is all good for those who believe that God can help but we forget that almost as important is to hear what God has to say about addiction. Christians believe that the bible is the Word of God so reading it regularly can also be inspirational. A few good verses: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” "Do not be misled. Bad company corrupts good character." "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"
I am a Roman Catholic and I grew up as a religious person. I studied in a Catholic School which is governed by the sisters or nuns. Everyday it is part of the school curriculum to teach the verses of the bible and its meaning to our life. That is why up to now that I am an adult already I am still reading the bible wherein I always use it as a reflections in my life.
I'm not really a religious guy myself, although I was raised Catholic (I'm Italian). Good for you if you are and you've found solace in religion. If you're not into religion, might I suggest reading the works of classical and modern philosophers like Montaigne or Schopenhauer; they actually have some things to say about vices and addictions.
I am glad that I am not the only Christian on this website. Thank you for sharing those verses, and I hope that somebody reads them and dives into the Bible and falls in love with Jesus because of it.
Guys whatever works for you. I dont agree with you theologically and im not a christian but if belief in God and the bible helps you beat addiction then good for you.Whatever the philosophy that helps you i say good for you.
I believe in God, but I am not a church goer. I believe that God listens to us and will guide us on the path that we are meant to follow as long as we listen and do good things in this world. I am not much of a bible reader, but more of a natural and spiritual person if that makes sense.
I think it's the best book to read even if you are reading it with a critical eye. I wish I could be more consistent with my own reading. I can easily see why some use the Bible to help with their addiction.I feel like there are no questions which cannot be answered using this book. That's my humble opinion.
I think reading the Bible will really help someone who believe in God to feel loved and have more hope. There are phrases in the Bible that can help in various life situations such as addiction. One should just read it and understand it.
Reading the bible will definitely inspire anyone who is sort of in a rough road in life right now, so I'm sure religious people will turn to that if they are looking for inspiring words. I'm not really religious though and I prefer to just talk to God directly through praying if something bothers me.
Good advice, I have neglected my reading of the bible lately. I used to read it a lot on a daily basis and had grown a lot spiritually. I will read some today and start getting back into the habit.
Reading the bible is important in my life. When I read the word of GOD and meditate on it, and by meditate I mean to go over and over thinking and speaking the word of god to myself, I find myself believing and trusting GOD more and more. This is truly significant, GOD says in his word that he would keep us in perfect peace when our mind is stayed on him. Hope this helps someone.
There could be no greater advise a man can received after he has done all the mistakes in the world and that is through the word of God. The bible is the only material that can change us because the word of God is so powerful. It reveals how God loves the sinner and His ability to change the sinner.
I'm not religious, but I'm very spiritual. I don't follow the norms and rituals of Roman Catholic but I do believe in God. And I do pray a lot. I think the best way to get yourself motivated is to read the scripture, the gospel, and you will never go wrong when you follow it.
I do agree Bible can help person lives changes. The bible is not only for a mystery, but it has also a practical ways to guide us through our life. According to Hebrew 4: 12 in a symbolical way the Bible is like a Sword that Exerts power. It is important too that we have a Bible not just to read it, but also to Study the Bible and make an application of what you understand.
Bad company corrupts good character is right. Wine being a mocker well I do not drink wine right now, but years ago I could recall drinking some wine and I never got drunk. The part there about being sober is so true you got to be sober if you want a job or get through life.
Bibles are a way for the people to feel saved. I mean going to a church can sometimes be negative if you do not have the right influence. So there is that point where you have to read for yourself.
I don't go to any church, but I love to listen Joel Osteen's teachings. I believe in the Holy Trinity and I was raised in a Christian background. I always pray whenever I'm successful and I'm in need of God's help. I believe in prayers and I think for those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions should ask for help from God to be able to overcome that addiction.
