A loved one is using and he is a sportsman, you have tried to counsel and educate him on the dangers of using but he feels he has everything under control.
He knows how he escapes medicals without being caught.

What should be the best thing to do? Report him anonymously and his career is over? Or just sit and wait till he decides to stop?

How can you save him. He feels he has a reason for using substances and claims he is not addicted.

I think you already have something you could use to get him to stop using drugs or at least the one thing that will persuade him to fight his addiction.

Question: are you willing to do whatever it takes to get him to stop using drugs? Then use his career as your weapon. Tell him the truth. If he doesn't stop using drugs, you'll report him. It does sound like blackmail and it most certainly will make him very be angry. He might even start hating you but you must be willing to take that risk.

The ironic thing, is you don't want to ruin his career, but if his problem is as serious as you say, the drugs will ruin his career eventually. The challenge will be convincing him of that. It can be very hard to convince professional athletes they have a problem, they Have been trained to ignore "haters," so it will take a lot of patience, but if you can scare him into believing the drugs are hurting him, you may be able to make him see the light.
