Researchers from the National Institutes of Health, the Ernest Gallo Clinic, and Research Center at UC San Francisco, managed to cure addiction in rats by stimulating their brains with laser light. Specifically, the prelimbic region of the prefrontal cortex.
The good news is that the same region can be stimulated in humans using transcranial magnetic stimulation, a technique that has already been used to treat symptoms of depression.
