How can we help those street children who sniff glue? We all know that sniffing glue or paint thinner can cause kidney problems. Others do sniff toluene and other solvents without knowing that it can cause liver damage. Are we supposed to snatch it from them and throw it away or there are other alternatives?

The best thing to do in this case would probably be trying to inform them of the dangers associated with sniffing these substances, and try to encourage them to give up the habit. Merely snatching the substances from them won't be much of a deterrent, as they can probably easily get more of the stuff.

Like explorerx7 mentioned, the best thing with youth is education. You could tell them at school, especially from a young age. I never saw the point of it, I've tried it and although it smells nice, I think it's a rather taboo addiction. Tell the kids all the bad things that could happen and tell them that there are better things to enjoy as a child.

They should get a chance to see what kidney damage is like. There should be people who have this problem talk to them about what it's like. I bet once they see how much they'd be loosing they'll appreciate there health better and stop doing this stooped stuff. Sometimes experience is the best teacher.

I think that we need to be responsible and also, we need to teach the children what to do and also not to use glue which can damage their health and also it is something which people need to see which can be a bad thing for the health and affect other people as well in the process. I reckon that when the children see someone who tells their experience it may be a good thing which can make them see the dangers of what occurs and also it is something that may teach them something as well. It is nice to help the children out when they need our help as it can make us think about the consequences and also hope parents do more to help their children and also it will be nice to see the good results.

I don't really hear much about this kind of thing any more. Probably because of so many other legal highs which have become available in recent times. However, with the banning of legal highs in the UK recently, this could start to become a problem again. I do think there are certain restrictions in UK, such as having to be 18 to buy lighter gas but then, anyone can buy solvents like deodorant which can be lethal. I have known people to get high on lighter gas and suchlike, despite the risk of instant death. I have also known those who sniffed so much glue they basically became brain dead. But these are not being sold as "legal highs" and therefore it's difficult to regulate them.
