I've seen a lot in the news lately regarding the negative effects of sugar on the human body, and how much the average person goes over the prescribed limits of sugar intake on any given day. I have no doubt that I'm one of those who goes far over the line, as I absolutely love gummy candies, and I've been known to make jaunts to the corner store at 9, 10 at night just to pick up a bag of candy. Just writing about this is making my mouth water.

Is anybody else addicted to sugar in the same way? I know it's not universal. My dad, for example, doesn't really like sweet stuff. If you are an addict, do you have any tips for offsetting the craving? I find fruit helps, but not as much as I'd like.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it - overall I'd say I prefer savory foods over sweet ones. In saying that though, sometimes I get crazy cravings for chocolate or candy, and it's to the point that nothing else seems to satisfy me unless I get it. I try to drink green tea when I get those cravings as I read green tea works to stomp out those cravings for sweets - it does tend to help me a bit.

Well, I do have a sweet tooth and I always like to consume something sugary. However, I'm quite aware of the health risks and make sure that I always consume sugar in moderation. Lately, I've been cutting down on my sugar intake as I'm getting on in years and I need to be more careful. I do envy those that don't like sugar and naturally steer clear of the stuff.

Yes, very much agreed. I understand that my dad doesn't like sweets, but at the same time I don't understand why he doesn't like 'em. They're so good. Just thinking about it... augh, yeah, my mouth is watering again. The temptation to go grab some cookies, like, right now...

We should probably buy more fruit. The natural sugars in them is usually enough to curtail the urge. Problem is, the fruits on sale around here are usually such garbage, and I don't have time during the day to go to a really good fruit market. Maybe I should look into more frozen fruits...

I think that sugar needs to be controlled and also the amount we take in as well since it can cause problems for the body as well, and need to make sure the amount taken is small. I try and have sweets in a small amount and also have soft drinks which are good for the body and have less amount of sugar, and try and go for the low sugar ones which are cheap as well. It is important to have a watch of the amount of sugar in some foods as it can be high and need to limit the food, or the drink and try and eat foods which are nice and also have the good sugars for our body.

I love to eat sugary foods, but thankfully I'm not addicted to sugar at all. I do consume them from time to time, but I don't really crave it hard. I think you should try to focus on eating non-sugary snacks like popcorn or peanuts to offset your sugar craving.

Sugar is quite addictive I guess. Thinking about it I could be an addict too because if you think whenever we can put it somewhere we do so this can be felt like a necessity more than an addiction actually. However if we do not overdose the sugar it's all fine I mean, it's not deadly as far as I am concerned.

I get addicted to sweets when I start eating them. I don't know why but once I start, I just can't stop. So it's better for me to just not buy them or else if I do, I will finish the whole bag of chocolate myself. It's not really healthy so I try to steer clear of the grocery aisle filled with candies and chocolates. That is the only thing that had helped me fight off the addiction. Fruits do help me too in satisfying my sweet tooth but nothing can really beat that big pack of Cadbury sweetness though.

Actually all of us in the family avoided eating sweets already when my father was diagnosed with diabetes. Our family doctor said it is genetic and can be inherited that is why he advised us to do so. That is why we just get our sugar from fresh fruits but in the right quantity only. For health reason we should know the right thing when it comes to our sugar consumption that our bodies need.
