One of my biggest goals is to travel most of the world. I wished this since I was a kid and up until this day I worked a lot on my goal. I visited a lot of countries (I really loved the US and France) and my goal is to visit at least 2 countries/year. I hope I will accomplish what I want to do, it would be a really big accomplishment.
One of the best and most important things you can do in recovery is set those goals for yourself, I think! I also think that it's great that it's a long term goal -- pledging to visit 2 countries a year is no small feat, so good on you for aiming big! Seeing the world is such a wonderful thing, I always feel like visiting new places is like a natural high - it's good for the soul! Wishing you the very best of luck!
Thank you, your post was very inspiring to me! A lot of people told me that it would be impossible to travel the whole world, but I don't think it is for me. When I will retire I plan on selling my house and assets and living aboard for the rest of my life, visiting the most countries I can.
I think this is a spectacular idea! What a wonderful goal to set for yourself!!! This goal can also become one of your biggest motivator's and inspirations to continue to live sober! Its nice to be able to remind yourself that you most likely would never be able to accomplish this had you not made the choice to take the path of recovery. So very proud of you!
What's cool about traveling in recovery is you have friends waiting for you wherever you go. And remember, others don't know what is best for you. That is between you and your higher power. I have done things that I knew were right, in my gut, but everyone around me thought I was being stupid/setting myself up. By the same token, I have thought someone was making a huge mistake, and it ended up being the best thing for them. Hold on to your dreams, and your recovery.
I think that's a great goal! As a matter of fact, you should send us lots of pictures so I can live vicariously through you. I'm too chicken to ever do anything like that, myself. I really hope you can do it! And I was being serious about the pictures.
That's a great plan you have going on there. But why restrict yourself to only 2 countries? If you happen to have the time you could visits dozens of countries in the space of an year. Getting across borders is plain sailing in some countries nowadays. Especially if you're a member of the EU. If you're not, there's plenty of other options. Don't limit yourself. Explore the world while you can.
Seeing the world is a dream of mine too. My family being in different countries sorta paved that opportunity but there is still so much to see out there. My last great experience was at Trinidad and Tobago attending the 2014 Carnival festival. I was hoping to go again this year but work got in the way. Still, its something to look forward to.
I hope that your goals are strong enough for you to stay sober and away from abuse and addiction. You have such a nice goal and desire. Sure, you'd be able to do it. When you feel weak, recall your passions and goals right away, and just do the right thing and stop thinking. When you are already doing it, you'd get distracted from your desire of drugs and alcohol. So don't keep yourself idle. Always work towards the attainment of your dreams.
I think wanting to travel the world is a great goal to try and accomplish. This is also one of my goals, its such a privilege to even see outside of my own country.
What a wonderful goal. Travelling does widen your horizons. I've seen many people grow and expand their way of thinking because of their travels. There's a difference between looking a place from afar and being actually there and immersing in its culture. As for me, the only places I've been to were Singapore and Vietnam - quite a study in contrast. Still, I've learned to appreciate each country and seen first-hand how people carry out their lives. Travelling is a humbling experience.
I think that's wonderful! I tell my kids all the time to think "globally" not "locally". There is a giant world out there. It does not take much to change your circumstances and go off on an adventure. Do you want to live in the US? Do you want to go to Australia? Become a fisherman in Thailand? DO IT! The world is out there for us to discover!
I wish you all the very best with your aspirations. I hope that you will be able to see as much as possible of the world and learn about different cultures and customs. I myself have always been a restless spirit, and in the last 20 years I have lived in many different corners of the world. I left the country where I was born at a young age have never been back, as since I can remember I always had the feeling that I didn't belong there.
That is one of my dreams/goals in life as well. I would love to travel around the world, see beautiful places, meet new people, eat local and international cuisines, take pictures, and make wonderful memories. Probably when I have already saved enough money for this great escapade of mine, I would really do it.
I really want to travel Europe as well as go to Alaska and Hawaii. Even though there is expenses involved with each trip, all of them are achievable places to go. I plan to visit the UK by the time I am 40 and then go to Alaska and Hawaii thereafter. It gives me something to look forward to and save my money for.
I know there are people who wish they could travel the world, I hope you get to continue traveling. I've always wanted to tour Europe. Traveling in my opinion can be very relaxing and peaceful, I know it helps me get my mind off things.
Such a wonderful and fun goal to have! One of my friends parents travels the world in his occupation of repairing airplanes. He pilots some of those airplanes and gets a chance to travel all over the place like to Russia, england, and Africa! Its fun and gets your mind off of negatives thoughts for a while!
I'm going to join the others in saying that your goal is indeed a wonderful one. I also dream of traveling the world as well but I just don't have the luxury to do that right now. Anyway, getting out of your comfort zone and traveling is a good way to relax and discover yourself while discovering the world. For recovering addicts it is one way of starting fresh. Traveling clears the mind of blunders and hassles of daily life. Meeting new people and experiencing new things gives a person a realization that life is indeed wonderful if you live it.
To update this topic a little bit: I just came back home from my trip to Sweden. I stayed there 2 weeks and I really enjoyed the culture and the country overall. I have one more country to go, but I really don't know where should I head.
