When dealing with someone with addiction, we all face a great amount of stress and aggravation. What are some of the ways you channel those in a productive way, rather than letting it build and fester? I know some people will work out, go for a walk, yoga, deep breathing. Some will pick up a book and enter another world for a break. What do you do? Or what are some things that we can recommend to help people?
To deal with the stress of my father's addiction, I pray. I have been praying and I know that is the only thing keeping him safe. He has had to many close calls with death, accidents and jail.
When stressed or to avoid stress, I usually go out and walk. I feel quite relieved when walking outside and seeing some other things outside. I also listen to some music that are relaxing to the ears.
My number one stress reliever is that I work out. I tend to do it a lot regardless of what I'm going through. Love how it focuses my mind and eases my stress levels. Also makes me feel a lot better physically and mentally. I'd recommend it regardless, but definitely if you're dealing with a stressful friend or relative going through an addiction, and the trouble related to that.
I recommend to lishen music while we all face a great amount of stress and aggravation. It helps me alot, when I feel Stress i usually lishen songs.I recommend to lishen love songs.
When I am stress, it's either I am physically or mentally stress for being pressure of the people that surround me. So for me to reduce my stress, I eat sweets like chocolates or anything that I crave. Sometimes, I hang out with my friends and cherish the moments with them since I consider them as stress relievers. But, I often take a deep sleep to relieve my stress.
When I am stressed, be it because of work or another people, I watch my favorite show which is How I Met Your Mother and eat chips. I tune out everything except for the show and for a moment I just feel like I'm happy, I'm okay, I'm calm. Another way that I deal with it is that I take four deep breaths with my eyes closed and playing an upbeat song in my head. After that I just feel okay again.
I keep myself busy and fill up my day with activities. Exercise and daily walks with the dog helps me think things through and fills up any gaps during the day. That keeps me away from getting bored and wanting to use again.
I enjoy crocheting. It really relaxes me. I also enjoy getting online and interacting with others who are dealing with a loved ones addiction. It seems to help put things into perspective when you realize that you are not the only one that goes through things and it feels good to know that you do not have to go through it alone.
I might immerse myself in a good book, exercise, listen to some music, walk my dogs longer, watch a good movie, sing aloud among other things. Would you believe I've been quite stressed out recently and I happen to be doing none of the things I mentioned? Perhaps this thread is a reminder of what I have to do to get myself up and "running " again.
Instead of trying to cope with drugs, I make jewelry. (I sell them too, which helps me even more.) It's like I'm killing two birds with one stone. Me being stressed leads to making jewelry which leads to money that I can use to get something more valuable to me. I also do Yoga 5 times a week to keep my stress levels down, which I can say helps me a ton.
Any addict needs love. We naturally do not want to feel neglected. Encouraging music and verses can help one out of stress. Taking a walk also helps. We can join our friends or family members out for sporting.
When dealing with just about anything, you get stress. That's the price of the modern life. Worrying is a shadow that just doesn't leave you. One of the things that cools me down is when I am alone in nature, away from everything. Just makes me forget about the issues from the city. Also I can't go out of the city so often so a punching bag allows me to take out all the negative energy. It's much more effective than people let on Cheaper than any shrink
Physical activity is my go-to stress reliever, unless I’m ill or injured. In that case I pick up a book or throw myself into one of my creative hobbies. In any case I also try to get proper amounts of rest, I think this is extremely helpful.
Workout was helping me, but right now I can't exercise much (my mobility is reduced at the moment, not completely, but I must be careful). I still try to get 20 minutes exercise almost on a daily basis, because physical activity does help a lot! I felt better when I could exercise for 45 minutes or more, back when I could try all kids of workouts. Now I can hardly complete the walk at home leslie sansone workouts. On a really bad day my stress reliever is either sugar or junk food. Those two are cheaper than fruits So my first option when I'm really stressed out is junk food. I'm actually thinking of getting some carrots next week, peel them and cut then into sticks. Eat them with some lemon juice every time I feel stressed.
That sounds like a really awesome hobby!! Where do you sell them? At Etsy? I know a guy who offers jewelry making courses here, I always thought that was an interesting thing to do during one's free time. Nice way to keep your mind busy, must be nice to create something nice with your own hands; something so nice people are willing to pay for it Good for you! I've been knowing for a while I do like crafts, but still not sure what kind I should try. Been thinking of painting in the future, once my financial situation allows it.
I would relieve stress by just going to my college even if I did not have class. I would sit in the cafeteria with my laptop and play games, and also talk to my other friends. I always had a schedule where I would have a long break so that I could just chill. It was nice being out of the house not having to deal with anything.
AAAH! I'm so sorry for the late reply! Something happened with my laptop and such. And actually, I sell them on Fiverr! I usually make bracelets, necklaces, and waist beads. Something about it makes me feel so calm. I don't expect to stop making them any time soon!
Whatever is the cause of my stress I see to it that I will sweat it out...Either I will do walking and doing the zumba dancing. And after every perspiration it is a nice feeling and its great! Sometimes during weekends me and my husband do hiking to inhale some fresh air and see the greenery of nature. After these activities my stress is already relieved and I had peace of mind.
A great way for me to relieve stress is to go to my local gym and work out. Working out while listening to music makes me forget why I feel stressed out and just opens up my mind. Sometimes I like to eat more than I usually eat when I am stressed out but I later on regret it so if you are thinking about eating for a stress reliever you should just try something else. Watching a show or a movie can also help and it can help even more it you are out with friends or family.
