I have been a dispatcher for 15 years. I was not aware of how severe the withdrawal symptoms of alcohol were until I switched to a new center that had two rehabilitation centers in the area. The first few times we got calls about patients with severe symptoms I was shocked. We use a predetermined script of sorts for the medical questions so even previously my interaction might not have been entirely different but is always good for us to know what is going on behind the scenes. I like knowing more than the basics for most of the medical calls because it helps me understand the call or the caller a little easier. So what do you wish you could tell providers? What symptoms do you think are overlooked or under valued my medical providers?
