What have been your positive experiences living in a sober living home?

  1. I'm very curious to hear what anyone has to say about these types of homes! Did you have positive experiences? What were unusual challenges that were presented during your stay?

I have never stayed at a sober living house, but a friend of mine. He says he was advised to get into after leaving the detox center as a way to achieve sobriety naturally.

At one of these homes you likely will find a safe and supportive environment. People watch over one another so they can keep sobriety up, and avoid relapse from occurring, particularly if you have undergo outpatient rehab, but this can also be an alternative to rehab treatments.

In the case of my friend, he shared the home with other four guys and the house manager. In all of these homes, the manager is a certified alcohol, drugs and substance abuse counselor, who lives in-house full time to help.

My friend says this was for him a kind of spiritual retreat experience, and left with renewed peace of mind and totally clean.
