I agree with that addicts act the way they do because the drug is in control of them. I have witnessed a relative go insane a few times before and after he took ecstacy (it took us a while to know the pill is ecstacy). However, before we bystanders understood that it was the drug that drove him crazy, we had ever sent him to a mental hospital, thinking he was mentally ill. So any program that is helping family members understand what an addict is experiencing and the drug that damages him would be a very helpful one.
I don't agree with you here Charli, and that's fine, we can agree to disagree... I don't that it is "their" mind and "their" decision that is controlling them. They are no longer in control. I think that the drug is in control, that is why addiction is so harmful. An addict will do something while they are on drugs that they would never do if they were clean. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't add that every situation is different. All addicts are not the same, some function better than others, some addicts "handle" their drug of choice better than others handle things.
I agree with you that it is the chemicals that make a person act the way that they do when they are on drugs. I've seen really nice people turn into crazy people when they are on drugs, or when they cannot get a drug. They are no longer thinking with their own mind, it seems as if the drug is thinking for them.
Addicts react the way they do because of their altered state of mind and because of their strong physical and psychological dependence when they don't have it in their system. When they have just taken it in, they'd have an altered state of mind. When they don't have it, because they believe they can't survive without, out of desperation they are pushed to do things that a normal being wouldn't do.
I think that part of the reason that addicts act the way that they do is because they are desperate to keep the addiction going. That is what makes them feel good. They have to use manipulative and deceitful behaviors to try to fool those around them into thinking that there is not a problem. Being under the influence of a drug or alcohol can also change a person's behavior.
Humans are not too logical to begin with. Throw some chemcials into them, and humans start to become insane. It doesn't hurt to ask why, but over analysing doesn't get you anywhere. Sometimes you just have to accept things.
She doesn't care. She will continue to choose alcohol over everything else in this world probably until the day that she dies, probably of some sort of liver disease to be honest. She even went through cancer two years ago and chemotherapy for months and the doctors told her to stop drinking so that the chemo would work faster, but she kept drinking her wine and her vodka lemonade drinks which made her have to do chemo for a whole lot longer than she would have if she had just stopped drinking for that short time!
Right that addicts act the way they do because they are already consumed by the substance/chemical they are using. Their minds are most likely not that able to think correctly and maybe just acting without thinking anymore. The call of addiction to their body could also force them to do anything just to get their hands on their addiction.
I don't think there's one simple explanation that will explain why addicts act the way they do. Everyone is different and copes with situation and trouble in their lives in different ways. For the most part I think addicts are people who just don't know how to handle things the way most "normal" people do. They turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to escape or avoid the problems they are dealing with in day to day life.
I never understood why an addict acts the way they do until I experienced addiction first hand. Inside you are hurting and just longing for a positive change. A family member of mine just had a difficult time recovering from meth addicition. It hurts me so bad to see where she is going in her life, but to see where she came from just explains everything. You are a product of your environment. People don't truly understand what that means exactly. Whether you come from wealth or are dirt poor the way people treat you and make expectations of you only drives you further into an addiction. The feeling you get of happiness can only be achieved once through a drug but a lifetime with a loving family.
Addicts act the way they do because of the drugs or the kind of narcotics they take. They tend to become out of their minds and being harsh to others. Prohibited drugs affect their thinking that's why they act like not normal persons. They are so dependent on illegal drugs and they take it as their vitamins.
I think that kind of programs do sound like an amazing option for people who are having a hard time dealing with the addiction of a loved one. Sadly I am not sure that kind of programs are available everywhere I think they must be available mostly in the US, but not so sure you can find that on Europe.
