Let's face it, marijuana is at the peak of its fame and many young people nowadays abuse it. It's even gone that far that the media is portraying it as a medicine (medical marijuana) and it gained sort of a cult status among the youth. What do you think is the reason for this? Why do musicians constantly write about smoking "mary jane" and loving it? Why do young people feel the need to smoke marijuana to feel happier? Please share your opinions here.
I think that people may see others around them use it and not face any harm from using it and others can try it and may face some effects and can think it is strange they were affected but the people who are around them who used them did not face any consequences and this could lead them to experiment with it to face problems. There are movie stars who do it and it seems amazing which can make the mind seem like it is fun and also they can party real hard and not have to face any consequences from enjoying the drug in their body. I reckon that there is some good in the use of this drug like medical cures in people who suffer from back pain or autism and this may make some people see it is harmless like water or fruits.
It isn't at any peak of fame and isn't an issue restricted to musicians and young people either. Medical usage can't be lumped in with recreational use (abuse) either.
Some compounds extracted from cannabis have been shown to have medically beneficial properties, but people see this fact and then try and make a case for legalized "weed" as if it legitimizes its recreational use. I don't think it does, and have said as much before, and I see the decriminalizing of cannabis as a very dangerous thing.
I don't really know why. Probably because marijuana is not really a drug, it's a herb/grass which could be both used for medicinal, and recreational. And maybe because smoking weed is more glamorous than snorting cocaine.
That is an incredibly ignorant statement to make. It is a drug in every sense of the word. Most modern drugs have their origins in plant compounds. There is nothing glamorous about recreational drug use. Recreational use is abuse period.
I was definitely wondering this as well, particularly about "reefer movies." Everyone in my generation has seen Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, for example, and they all love it. The movie really trivalizes the dangers of drug addiction, making it seem like a good thing. Both of the main characters in the movie went to Ivy League schools and have what seem like fun lives, in spite of the fact that they get high all the time. It's made into a joke. And a lot of young people aren't mature enough to separate the character from reality, or even the actors themselves. It's like Kal Penn got famous from Harold and Kumar, and soon after that he went on to work in politics and even worked in the White House under a presidential appointment. I'm not sure what the right solution is, but I do think there needs to be an effort to separate the fiction from the harsh reality for most people.
I think it is because it is now so common. Kind of like alcohol in my opinion, because so many people do it for some reason it somewhat becomes okay.
I think the reason marijuana is not viewed in the same negative light as in the past is because science has proved that there are some conditions and ailments which medical marijuana can treat. This however is no excuse for the recreational use of Marijuana because though it can treat said ailments abusing marijuana would cancel out all its medical benefits.
Marijuana was seen as a taboo in the past but because of the medicinal usage marijuana has been projected in a completely different light lately. Unfortunately the recreational usage has also stopped having a the same taboo as it did in the past.
I'm not a doctor so I don't know the psychological reasons for why it's more accepted. I also don't understand much about the medicinal aspects. I know Woodstock, Cheech and Chong were popular since the 1960s, and I do hear it referenced in modern music. I don't know if we hear more about it due to social media, if the songs and movies spread more because of that. I didn't have access to such information when I was growing up, I couldn't just go online and see pictures of it or musicians/athletes/actors using it. However, that gives the opportunity to spread different messages about it, to spread the message of the damage it may have caused in our own lives, to share our truth and stories, to give another way of seeing it to young people. That way, maybe if they see both sides, they can be more informed to make better choices. Who are some musicians or actors you may have heard of who denounce it? Surely there are a few artists/athletes/actors/comedians who've mentioned it in a negative way. Maybe we can find out and celebrate that instead. Thank you for the food for thought, and have a beautiful day!
Well I think it has to do with the low toxicity of the drug and the fact that it makes people feel great when they use it. I also think people are seeing how ludicrous it is that it's still widely illegal, despite its non-lethality and medicinal uses.
It really comes down how it's used, medicinal marijuana isn't supposed to be smoked so unless you put butter or some sort of fat into the tea THC will not be dissolved. It understandable that marijuana still isn't full legal in most places due the very strict anti smoking policies that have been passed in most countries. I doubt that marijuana will ever be fully legal and easily obtainable.
I ask myself the same question. Why is it being glorified as something cool in the media. What's the plan behind all that? The only answer I could come up with was "Money." Someone wants you to buy it. It's advertising. Who's behind all this? Very powerful people, believe it or not. The war on drugs has always been a lie.
Definitely Money is the main reason why it was being advertised as well just like other products in the market. On countries or cities where marijuana is legal, they will likely to consume it just like the other legal things like alcohol and cigarette.
Acquiring it is easier than acquiring any other drug, and the effects aren't as horrible and covered just like, say, meth effects. It's a cheap, fascinating high, and the fact that it is used as a medicine makes people think it's totally legit and that it can't harm them. I am sick of its "cult", though. It's full of teenagers and young adults who think they are "zen" and more connected with the universe because they smoke it. It's like they have no brains.
Marijuana has medicinal properties. Hemp plant (the plant that produces marijuana) is very useful plant, the fiber from this plant can be used as raw material to manufacture clothes. The seeds of hemp plant is considered a great delicacy.
I don't think Marijuana has the best reputation, but I guess the medical background weighs a lot in the stigma. People like to hate on it since it's a drug like any other and it's addicting, but it's no where near as distructive as heroin for example.
Well, it simply is following the trend of alcohol. Like alcohol, marijuana use is very commonplace in society. And like the alcohol ban era, the government crackdown on the substance and it's 'war on drugs' has generated the huge media attention to the drug. In my opinion, marijuana is just following the same trend as alcohol did in the prohibition era, and the publicity and the media talks will just simmer down as soon as the government lifts its ban and legalises the damn thing.
Why? Because it is a mass social brainwashing for control. This is what the media does. Make you think one way or another. Young people, well most people are looking for something to alter their state of mind. Usually in an induced or forced fashion. Like it's the end of the day and this is what I do. Young people are susceptible obviously because its peer pressure. Something to do, let's try it out kind of thing. Not everyone falls into it, but there is a majority.
