Do people become addicted to xanax in that they need it to control their anxiety, or do they become addicted more to the effects it produces? I mean would someone who is addicted to xanax, take it whether they are experiencing anxiety or not?

Xanax is a depressant and produces various side effects on the body. I assume most people become addicted due to the side effects rather than the need to control their anxiety. Overuse and abuse of Xanax can result in various problems, including memory issues and extreme sluggishness. I've actually never known anyone addicted to Xanax, although I've heard some nasty stories about it.

A little of both. I think people get used to being both worry free and the euphoric feeling that comes along with it.
