Is there anyone here also addicted to Xanax?
Hi there...I was addicted to Xanax for 10 years before I was switched to its cousin Klonopin for another 10. So it is safe to say I have been walking around sedated for 20 years of my life. TODAY I AM FREE! I am 4 1/2 months clean. It was the hardest journey OF MY LIFE, But being on the other side makes me so grateful. I am here to offer hope. That stuff is nasty. If I o my knew how how much it was taking me down I would not have waited to hit bottom to get help. Just wanted to respond as I don't see a lot searching for benzo help. Any question ask away.
@Free&grateful... I'm so happy to hear that you are free and clear from benzos. They are indeed nasty drugs. I was on doctor-prescribed Klonopin to help me with anxiety and getting off of it was a nightmare. But after weaning myself off of it for a couple of years, I finally made it to the other side. Such a relief!
I just joined this community today. So you will probably notice, I have been commenting a lot.
My most sincere gesture of joy and happiness to you on your recovery. I currently take Xanax as prescribed by my psychiatrist. It helps me, but I must admit, it is a “double edge sword”
I have abused them in the past. The best thing to do, if tou can’t handle them, and merely use them for recreational purposes, is to stay away from them.
I have donde some stupid stuff on benzos in the past when i was youger.
I celebrate your recovery!
My son is 18 and addicted to zanax I have tried everything .he is very slow thinking acting and speaking .I followed him threatened the dealers put him in the hospital at least 5 times .last night he vomitted in his sleep .IAM feeling helpless any advice .IAM also a recoverong addict
@Mama g... Welcome. I'm so sorry to hear about your son's Xanax addiction. Is there any way you could take him to see an addiction specialist? An addiction specialist is a doctor who is thoroughly trained in all aspects of addiction, so they know way more than "regular" doctors. They can assess your son's situation and recommend the best next steps for him. They can also help him wean off of the Xanax safely. If I were you, that's what I would do.
You can find an addiction specialist by entering your zip code and doing a search at the American Society of Addiction Medicine's website. Here's the link to the search tool:
I will keep you and your son in my thoughts and prayers.
Im sorry to hear that. I know how addictive Xanax can be. I abused them for years. However, I was able to stop taking them just to get high.
I am now prescribed Xanax, but in low dosages.
0.5 gm’s. I take them for anxiety. They help me and I finally understood that if I abuse them, then they stop working for me. It takes a lot of understanding and commitment to regain a sense of awareness and acknowledgement about substance abuse. I am still addicted to cocaine.
The problem with young people like your son, is that they start using early and the brain doesn’t develop properly. I don’t mean to sound like I know it all. Truth of the matter is, I am an addict who’s only got 3 days of sobriety. I don’t know it all.
I can only hope that your son gets better.
Forgive me for saying this, but when it comes to benzo’s... sometimes is best to let the addict hit bottom. Its the only way to get them to snap out of it. I know that’s easier said than done. I am a parent myseld and I know how you must feel.
I hope you and your son overcome this disease of addiction. I am trying myself. Its hard. But where there is a will, there is a way.
God bless you.
how do I know if I took Xanax or not
@Daniel2360 hi daniel. not sure what you mean.... you took pills but not sure what they were?
yea I was sure what I took, but I was told that I took Xanax and that I should start to feel something within an hour but I never felt any different
Xanax is used to treat those with anxiety and panic disorders... It has a calming effect. Dosage would play a role...
I will say Xanax is addictive... and being addicted to it sucks big time... so if you're taking it for some sort of "effect"... I hope you will refrain from this in the future. If you have anxiety issues, talk to your doc.
I don't think I took Xanax cause didn't feel any different
Might not have been... No way of knowing now, I suppose.
well the last thing I remember was is going home but that's it
All very good input here i know when i withdrew from xanax supper high dose of 3-2mg bar's aday oh wow the hallucinations were on a level lsd never touched.Im not making a joke out of it im saying it was awful extremely intense and scary.Stay away from those thing's please
That's a good sign you experienced your first xanax
Diego I think u would have known if it was xanaxu took ,maybe u were told wrong or u took very small amount not to notice for ur first time.well maybe its best as they are not something to mess around with ,as they are very addictive to shake off with in a few days of taking u will feel ur mood altering be very care what u take. Best of luck mate
